Depth psychology + astrology = so incredibly insightful: "I've been working with the idea that life can be lived on three different levels—the head, the heart, and the belly. . . . Subpersonalities can form from head, heart, or belly energy. Let me explain this more clearly."

Anything that is going on inside or outside us can be experienced on these different levels. For example, let's say that somebody is meant to meet you and they have kept you waiting for an hour and a half and they still haven't shown up. You can deal with this situation via the head. The head may try to understand what is happening: you check your diary to see if you have the right time or place. The head may look for some sort of conceptual framework to understand what is going on. The head may even think that the reason the person didn't show up is because you are meant to do something else that day. Aquarius, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius are head signs who try to figure things out or see their meaning. Cerebral type subpersonalities can build up around these signs. Also, Virgo and Capricorn are heady in part, because they try to make sense of things as a way of keeping their feelings under control.

Or you can relate to being stood up from the heart. You feel sad that the person didn't come and worry about them being all right: "I hope she didn't get in an accident coming to see me—wouldn't that be terrible—it would be my fault". Or the heart goes home and writes a poem about how sad life is—'two ships passing in the night' sort of thing. The heart universalises its emotion, feeling the sadness and poignancy of it all, making a meal of feelings, and perhaps even enjoying a wallow. Cancer, Pisces, and Leo are obvious heart signs, and subpersonalities with a lot of heart may build up around these signs.

But what is going on in your belly? What is going on in your gut if you have been kept waiting over an hour and a half for someone you really wanted to see? And it's raining out as well. The belly is churned up and agitated. You can't help the belly getting agitated—it is the body's innate, gut response to being let down. The instinctive side may be thinking, "I hate him, I'll kill him, how could he do this to me?... wait till I see him again, I'll get him back". The belly may even be churning up other times in your life that you have been let down—like when you were four months old, flat on your back in your cot screaming for mother to come and she doesn't come.

The present situation will trigger any time in your life you have been betrayed, expectant and left hanging. I associate Scorpio, Aries, and Taurus with pure belly energy. Cancer is a mixture of heart and belly. Capricorn is an odd mixture of belly—strong gut feelings—and head, trying to rationalise and figure out and hold down. Subpersonalities with strong gut reactions may build up around these signs, or if, for instance, Pluto is on an angle or conjunct the Moon.
