He had to find a way to slip small boats in there didn’t he? Nowhere near enough hatred towards minorities in there if you’re wasting our time talking about nhs vs private healthcare for deprived communities

Enjoying some holiday fun by watching Back to the Future Part II… until I realised that the US elected the real life Biff Tannen

By this logic, I’m not English because my ancestors derive from Switzerland and wales (the celts). Nobody would ever challenge me though would they? The racists are idiotic and nonsensical, as well as repugnant.

Thread: The Online Safety Act is far from perfect but much of the current debate is clearly driven by people who either haven't read it or don't understand it. The Act DOES NOT include a general duty for platforms to remove or mitigate LEGAL content for adults. (1)

I definitely don’t agree with the anti-immigration rhetoric, but it’s not untrue to claim the care service is propped up by underpaid labour. Most of the care home sector is now owned by private equity, who enforce >50% EBITDA margins, to facilitate healthy dividends to their investors.

So if I get pregnant and go on holiday to the US; after how many days does my foetus become a citizen meaning that I can claim child tax credits? Just asking

Is this what he dreamed of when he spoke about us “taking back control”? 🙄

I’m old enough to remember when Britain introduced ‘gold visas’ under - I think - David Cameron’s government. Within a few years, the Russians were murdering their own on British soil.

“High costs” yet they can happily maintain >50% EBITDA margins to pay off their PE owners 😏

For those people saying “so what, he’s getting rid of government waste”, would a group of 20 years old with no industry experience understand what you did last week and the value of it? 🤷‍♀️

I 100% agree! They need to be much bolder, especially now they know that the voters want that! It just drives me mad that he’s getting away Scott free for the damage he’s done to our country 😂

Labour need to say again and again that Nigel Farage was the driver of Brexit. Young voters, especially 18-24 year olds, are unlikely to remember the Brexit campaign and the lies that were told.

The mad thing about this is how much they targeted advertising based on georgraphy. Living in London, I never saw these adverts.

Guaranteeing a loan is very different to subsidising it. The government would only pay out if the consumer wasn’t able to pay - and they’d be subject to credit checks before taking on the loan. Not saying I agree with removing the 2 child benefit cap but I don’t think the two are comparable.

I use instagram to stay connected to friends I have overseas so I don’t want to ditch it completely really… the tech is so embedded into our day to day lives. That’s the scary thing 🫣

Labour should reply with a video of the cabinet debating veganism in a pub - and then *nothing* happens.

He’s literally that drunk uncle that you’re nervous to bring your partner home to meet because you don’t want his behaviour to reflect badly on you. And he has the nuclear codes.

A Man Called Ove (/Otto). The writing is fantastic, with a lovely story that digs into human emotion and how we manage grief. The film adaptation with Tom Hanks was really good as well.

Worked from home for 2 weeks over the holidays. Getting up this morning for my commute has felt like getting up for an early morning flight. All the pain, none of the reward.

Can’t believe that Nigel Farage has the audacity to cite our declining wealth and net migration as the UK’s key issues that *he’ll* fix… they’re both a direct result of his #Brexit!! #BBCLauraK

This is the problem with basing your entire journalistic view on what angry people are saying on X

Just watched Elizabethland, the Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst film from 2005. Boy, I’d love to do a romanticised road trip like that through the US… music playing, eating properly bbq’d food, visiting wacky places

Alistair Campbell talks very eloquently about this - and is running a campaign to encourage debating and public speaking in state schools!

That’s interesting. Do you think it’s because of trained writing style for the application or preference by universities for those subjects?

I work with many Americans and from a young age, they’re taught the principles of public speaking (think elementary show & tell). You can see the impact to their confidence in the workplace vs Brits. Drama is more useful than just for those who want to join the film industry.

It’s mad that I came off X only a few weeks ago (the day after the US election lol) and I’ve noticed a tangible improvement in my mental health. It’s not normal to be so angry, all day every day. And that’s all that platform is designed to do now - no matter what your politics.
