I'm still using Wordpress (the free .org platform, not the paid .com hosting). Hosted on a shared hosting site for ~$5/mth. Endless free templates out there. Secure/private w/ the right free plug-ins. Coding isn't really needed, but I would say there's a learning curve & some tech know-how required.

I have sat inside this sadness all day. RIP Alice Notley. She was one of the greatest American poets.
SHOW YOU HIS FACE YOUNG
Alice Notley

treat everyone else as if they were also
pieces of the earth projections of the
earth, he said.
all this decay of bodies, this putri-
faction? not so bad, he said.
what does the earth want me to sing
to it?
‘i love you.’ he said.

my child come this way
my child come this way
you will take home with you a good country
says the father
ghost dance song.

i dreamed my own father was young,
drinking and young. such a longing to see him Mara i say

in a church basement i say
i’m in jeans and a soft man shirt, it’s an amateur sing
all the men there will sing, will i
the seat i sit down in i see belongs
to someone who will sing from Songs of the Republic
for the book is in front of me
i must find a seat where there is no book no Republic
no named song.

show you my father’s face young
but you can’t see it because
it’s inside me
or can you see it
can you see?

if they could see inside you his young self. and he is dead,
in the uncorrupting earth,
Gaza Strip determined to resist,
having set booby traps mines and roadside
bombs Mira says, so that
“This crime was carried out
by scum who hold nothing sacred,”
Putin said after the deadliest
terror attack in Russia sinceand all such attacks can be linked
and then we can kill them all,
all the Muslims we care to, in this corroborating war
which makes whatever we say
the truth of it, Mira says

Keep his mouth
away from me
whose? the mouth of male leader
keep it away

pull it away tear it away. a new
ghost dance song
i am singing Cosette says for i am new

Why am i here? i ask
the man in the black headband
Because you remember everything
and know that the earth is uncorrupting

Has gallant hair and master dust
who
the dead in mind
i’d show you my father in my mind

i love you earth, for you have allowed me my mind
for you have allowed me my form
which exists in my mind,
yours and mine
you are more than and more than by being only

i am the people of the sacred bird and the ghost shirt
soft plaid shirt

Yeah, it's often this ambivalent feeling for me about not caring about prestige, but at the same time acknowledging that I'm writing short fiction at a much slower rate & wanting to be judicious RE: where my stories are appearing. At this point, I just want to reach as many readers as possible.

Have you ever read Diane Wynne Jones? Chrestomanci and the Dalemark Quartet series were my faves.

The vulnerability is less the green card designation and more so that he's Palestinian and anti-Zionist. Plenty of people will look away and make accusations of Hamas support as a means to support ICE, including Democratic leaders. That's why Khalil was targeted.

Yes! It also makes me genuinely sad b/c I keep witnessing anti-intellectual bullying & antipathy toward those trying to practice media analysis—or trying to fill in the gaps w/ their own imaginations. I'm afraid the cult of the puzzle-box & the cult of endless exposition has won.

I have to confess that the phonetic transcriptions in the dictionary mean nothing to me. They are full of incomprehensible runes. Pronunciation guides to unknown incantations. As soon as I see a schwa my mind is yeeted into the astral plane.

My non-joke answer would be youth/father/sage. Thought process: the youth & maiden couple in "The May-Pole of Merry Mount." I considered "elder" for the final part, but I think "sage" works better b/c like "crone" it can carry supernatural connotations, i.e., age brings forbidden knowledge.

If Warnock is so concerned with Project 2025, perhaps him & Ossoff should not be aiding it by voting for bills like the Laken Riley Act, which will inevitably be used to jail immigrants w/o due process & give far-reaching authority to punish a group that's already racially profiled & over-policed.

Hey queer scholars, writers, & readers on the 🦋 site: I'm looking for recs for pre-21st century novels by trans writers (particularly I'm looking for post-WWII up to 1999). I'd also love recs for 20th century novels by queer writers that depict non-cis characters. Thank you! 🌈🎓 🌈🚀💫 #queerwriters

I can't say enough good things about this novel (published in 1991) & how poignantly ahead of its time it was in terms of discussing race, US history, violence, sexuality... all through the model of the vampire. Go out & buy yourself a copy of the Gilda Stories immediately if you've never read it.
