The longer this keeps saying "Coming on Sep 29", the more work I'll get done today.

Exciting, congrats! Curious what you'll build. 👀

The AI-generated cold outreach that I'm receiving on my work email has gotten so dumb it feels like rage bait.

I burned through 15,000+ build minutes on self-hosted GitHub Actions runners last month. Glad I don't have to worry about free build minutes anymore.

I'm very excited about TUF-based signing! Will finally allow us to securely mirror Rust releases and crates. Plus it'll generally harden Rust's supply chain security. 🫶

When switching service providers, I really need to start writing down why. I'm considering going back to one, but can't remember why I left in the first place. 🙄

I find the gigantic, highlighted Upgrade button in a paid Google Workspace so annoying. Maybe convince me to upgrade by providing value?

First time in my life a process got stuck so badly that "pkill -9" does nothing and "ps -p <pid>" freezes as well.

I keep thinking about how AI might change open source. What happens if we all end up with our own forks? jdno.dev/how-long-liv...

How Long-Lived Forks Break Open Source Collaboration
Open source is built around forks that briefly diverge and then merge back. Hyper-personalized software inverts that. Three problems get worse when forks stop being temporary.

Seeing how casually Claude is finding bugs in third-party tools while working on totally different tasks makes me feel both good and bad. There's a flood of bug reports coming for open source, but omg we might get so much better tools out of it.

Okay, closing and reopening the pull request fixes it.

GitHub resolving the incident with Actions while all my CI is still stuck in a weird nirvana state where it's neither queued nor can it be restarted is just annoying. 🙄

Waiting, because Renovate updated a dependency based on a GitHub release before it is actually available in its distribution, is its own kind of pain 🥲

I was expecting more novel ways for working with agents. Better remote control, innovative ways to create plans or steer the agents, maybe more optimized token usage. But none of the ones I tried seems to deliver anything like that. The difference seems to be in how well they can render diffs.

I've been trying a bunch of coding harness and they all just feel like marginal improvements over Claude Code? Am I missing something?

Renovate being the top contributor in most of my projects continues to hurt my feelings.

I'm still blown away by how casually coding agents are finding bugs in my old projects that I've never noticed in years. Feels like the floor is constantly being raised, improving the average quality of my code day-by-day.

⚠️ A few hours ago, a malicious crate was discovered on crates.io which spread as a dependency of `arrayref` and some other crates, likely due to compromised credentials. The affected versions have been deleted. For details and how to see if you are impacted, see: blog.rust-lang.org/2026/08/20/s...

Question for #Rust folks: How do you maintain per-crate changelogs and versions in a Cargo workspace, ideally with release automation using GitHub Releases? I have nice tooling for publishing a workspace as a whole, but not for releasing crates independently.

Some of the new tools for AI-assisted development are so frustrating. Their creators had great ideas, built versions that show all the promise, and then abandoned them right before they're actually usable. 😫

I feel like open source will (have to) change a lot with AI. We won't all run the same software, but will personalize it to our own needs. That changes how we collaborate, build communities, and maintain code. For better or worse. Started writing down my thoughts: jdno.dev/how-hyper-pe...

How Hyper-Personalized Software Challenges Open Source
AI makes it cheap to build software for exactly one person's workflow. The idea is twenty years old, but suddenly feasible. And it breaks an assumption at the heart of open source collaboration.

IMO, software devs have long had a cultural undercurrent of self-perception as *artisans* doing highly-detailed small batch or bespoke work, which is both wrong as a matter of primary economic context and sets up the adherents for a bad mismatch with AI's utility for software engineering.
