I have some questions. Is it OK to look, say, a gift crocodile in the mouth? A gift horse but in another orifice? One that's loaned? OK to poke it in the mouth without looking?

Weird. Last night I dreamed I was a contestant on 'University Challenge.' I correctly answered a question on sheep with the word 'merino.' This morning I click on the sports page and the first word I see is Merino, the scorer of Spain's winner against Belgium.

Always a pleasure to find these tiny moths in the grass after overnight rain. I took advantage of my dogs going off to do dog things to take a few snaps. The brown one is Spoladea recurvalis, not sure about the others. #moths #teammoth

No sooner has a lump of dog food fallen than 100 ants appear from nowhere. How do they know? Is there a scout primed to alert the others the instant food appears? Are the others sitting waiting like armies in trenches or do they have to drop whatever they're doing and race to the scene? Troubling.

I hate doors. They're so indecisive. One minute they're open, the next they're shut. Then they're ajar. Most doors are completely unhinged. In a gale they can fly off the handle. You can't trust a door. At least with a wall you know what you're up against.

A nice Tuftwing moth on the track I walk with my dogs this morning. Pterothysanus laticilia, old world butterfly moth. You can just about see the tufts on the wings. Plus an earlier sighting and a mating pair. Quite common around here in the rainy season. #moths #teammoth
moth with wings open on a muddy path; wings white with dark grey and black markings, red spots round the wing tips
the same species as in the first image on a stony track
a conjoined pair of the same species mating on green vegetation
