Cody's storylines were a drag on shows more often than not. They existed on their own little island. They radically changed week-to-week. And Cody rarely put anyone over (other than MJF and Malakai Black), so it's not like it helped people that much

It really feels like he used AEW's success as a steppingstone to get himself inserted into WWE's main even scene, and that's the primary value he saw in AEW (especially since he isn't getting the credit he seems to think he deserves)

Cody was always my least favorite member of the Elite. I've never really bought him as a main event guy. He's a heel who insists on being treated as a face (as opposed to a heel who thinks he's a face). His storylines in AEW, more often than not, wasn't very good. In sum: I don't miss Cody

He is a natural heel. I didn't watch much of his ROH or NJPW run, but my understanding is that the "American Nightmare" moniker started as part of a heel run. And that makes sense: American Nightmare screams heel. But he wants to be a beloved baby face like his dad

Also, despite being presented as a squeaky clean baby face, everything about him screamed heel. His presentation (pretentious special entrance elevator, fancy suits and watches) and in-ring psychology are all classic heel fare. But he had to be the baby face, not a heel who thought he was a face

Cody was one of the worst parts of early AEW. He was out of the world title scene, so he stuck on his little creative island where nothing made sense, things got randomly dropped, and he always won the feud. The only good thing to come from it was the TNT Title (aka Cody's vanity belt)

Enlightened despotism sounds good on paper, especially when you're stuck in a dysfunctional democracy. Things you want get done fast. But people imagine the enlightened despot will be on their side and do what they want. Once you realize that might not be the case, it doesn't sound so great

Purple Texas would be an existential threat to the GOP. If Democrats are capable of winning a Senate race, they can win the popular vote in a presidential election and the Electoral College votes as a result. That would basically ensure GOP defeat; it would be like NY going for the GOP
