I recall another study that drivers give riders without helmets more space because they think a collision will cause worse injuries but I don’t know if that was ever replicated or if it was just a Freakonomics-style counterintuitive nugget. I was radicalized by a restaurant down the street that was torn down 15 years ago, there was a proposal for a 30 unit 4 story building with underground garage that NIMBYs blocked because of “parking concerns.” Now it’s a used car dealership with at least another 15 years on their lease.
