My job is to get people to read the news, but I think push notifications are deeply unhealthy and it’s fine to just seek out news on your own time instead of letting someone shove it in your face at all hours of the day.

Hilarious number of your former colleagues to have immediately running to Politico to trash your new book announcement
The attention-grabbing ploy lit up Democratic and Biden alumni texting groups and reignited frustrations that burned for years about Jean-Pierre, according to seven former Biden administration officials granted anonymity to describe private conversations.

I never really considered that the Secret Service would do this but now I need to know if anyone has ever been picked up on an outstanding warrant because they visited the White House

One of the people told Semafor that administration officials made the decision in part due to the Secret Service warning that they’d have to arrest St. Clair if he showed up

There’s a great bit in THE FINAL RECKONING where Ethan Hunt, finally forced to confront the reality that he regularly hurts innocent people in service of his missions, apologizes to someone just for the guy to brush him off and say Ethan actually made his life way better by accident

Really did not love the first hour or so of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING, which falls to near FAST & FURIOUS levels of silly self-seriousness, but then Tramell Tillman almost single-handedly saves the movie by being the first person to remember this is supposed to be campy fun

Actually really enjoyed revisiting this one despite the flaws. Still my least favorite but now I think the real problem isn’t how disconnected it feels from the rest, but that John Woo waited until the last 30 minutes to really start doing John Woo shit.

Incredible power move by George Lucas during negotiations over TEMPLE OF DOOM, as recounted by Barry Diller in his new memoir: “This deal, the most generous in history, isn’t worth it?” “No, not really.”
Diller says Lucas “responded with cold clarity” and confirmed he was holding out and the current terms were not “worth it.”

“This deal, the most generous in history, isn’t worth it?” Diller says he pressed, to which Lucas reportedly replied, “No, not really.”

Diller claims he told Lucas, “But you made a legal and moral commitment to honor these sequel terms. Here you are, someone who doesn’t live in Hollywood because you loudly decry the amoral atmosphere of the company town, and then you blithely renege on an agreement made in good faith.”

Again, according to Diller, Lucas replied, “Yeah, well, it’s just not worth it for me unless I get more money.”A black and white photo of a young George Lucas looking cool as hell

MLB is going to experiment with bat-tracking for check swing challenges in the minors, and I think that’s great, but they’re going to define a swing as “when the head of the bat moves ahead of its knob by more than 45 degrees.” What???
A diagram shows a bat extending past the plate at a 45° angle. Below that is labeled “no swing” and past that is labeled “swing.”

I really like the movie but imo the biggest crime isn’t even just that they did this, it’s that they did it on top of performances from actors who could’ve looked convincingly like the originals with a bit of makeup and prosthetics! Just completely unnecessary!

Least insane Tom Cruise anecdote
In the Mission: Impossible franchise alone, Cruise has climbed the shiny glass sides of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building; hung from the side of an A400 military transport plane as it took off; and ridden an actual motorcycle off the edge of an actual Norwegian cliff. He has a commercial pilot license. He is one of 36 people in history to be named an honorary US naval aviator. He can parachute and BASE jump and free dive. But one issue with this particular idea for Fallout was that Cruise, at the time, was not trained as a helicopter pilot. So Cruise and McQuarrie made inquiries, and they were told that at eight hours a day, seven days a week, it would take three months to get Cruise up to speed. Cruise asked: What about the other 16 hours in a day? A month and a half later, he was ready to fly.

It’s too easy to say the NBA rigged the draft lottery as a kickback to the Mavericks for trading Luka to LA. I’m going one level deeper and saying they did it to stop Miriam Adelson from tanking the team to justify a move to Las Vegas.
