Does anyone have any information on Edson Fessenden Gallaudet? Specifically his early life, why did his company fail & his later years until his death in 1945. Trying to find correspondence, letters, diaries, and/or collections. E-Mail: jbbandaviation@hotmail.com Website: jbbeckworldofaviation.com

EDSON FESSENDEN GALLAUDET
The name Gallaudet is famous for the Gallaudet University and for the school of the Deaf. Edward Miner Gallaudet founded Gallaudet University, which was the first college for the deaf. His father Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet co-founded the American School for the Deaf (ASD). Edward Gallaudet’s fifth child was Edson Fessenden Gallaudet (see below). Edson didn’t garner the fame of his father and grandfather, but he was an aviation pioneer.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine just reported at an Operation Epic Fury briefing that famed USAF Pilot Bud Anderson flew an F-104 Thunderchief. The Republic Thunderchief "Thud" was an F-105. The Lockheed Starfighter was the F-104. Bud Anderson did fly both the F-104 & F-105.

Did anyone see episode 1 of 'The Count of Monte Christo' on PBS Masterpiece tonight (Sunday - 3/23/26)? Can anyone tell me what the actor Sam Claflin (Edmond Dantes) said near the very end when he was clutching the bars on the window of his cell? I can't make it out because the music was very loud.

His father was the founder of Gallaudet University. Edson founded the Gallaudet Engineering Company in 1908 in Norwich, Connecticut. In 1909 he built his first airplane. He tested his first seaplane prototype, the Gallaudet D-1 in the Thames River near Gales Ferry, Connecticut.

I have an idea (yes, I do realize it may be naive or wishful thinking), what if the 900 billionaires in the U.S. each donated $1 million dollars (it could be written off on their taxes) to Feeding America, then that $900 million could help feed the 14 million children in food-insecure households.

Call me naive, but I have noticed the on Social Media (Facebook, X, Bluesky, & LinkedIn) when someone posts something they get likes. They also get disagreements & debates. Don't get me wrong, I believe in free speech. A lot of people have died so I/we have that right. So I reluctantly post this.

My wife and I had returned from a trip to upstate New York in March 2015 and on our way home we stopped at the New England Air Museum.  It is a gem of a museum nestled in the tranquil woodlands next to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.  Back in 1969 it was called the Bradley Air Museum, but on October 3, 1979 the museum was struck by a tornado and almost completely destroyed.

Charles Lindbergh – The Lone Eagle during WWII in the Pacific
Charles Lindbergh, the famous aviator, was against America going into WWII. After the Pearl Harbor attacks, however, he wanted to do whatever he could for the war effort. President Roosevelt didn’t want a national hero to be involved in any actual combat lest he got hurt or killed. Also, the president held some deep resentment against Mr. Lindbergh because of Lindbergh’s activities before the war.

A Look at the B-52 Bomber
The historic Boeing B-52 Bomber first flew 57 years ago on April 15, 1952. The B-52’s official name is ‘Stratofortress’ but its nickname is BUFF which stands for ‘Big Ugly Fat Fellow’ (among other things). The B-52 has been used in combat missions from the Vietnam War up to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. NASA has used a B-52 (Serial Number 52-0008 – it was the 10th one off the assembly line) from 1959 until 2004 as a “Mothership” to lift aloft experimental and research aircraft on test flights.

If you recall in the 1965 version of the movie “The Flight of the Phoenix” the character Heinrich Dorfmann says the following: “In 1841 Henson and Stringfellow built a rubber-powered model that flew 600 meters before encountering an obstruction”. So, you ask yourself who are Henson and Stringfellow. Were they aviation pioneers?  Did they do something historic? And if so, what was it?
