A rough sketch from a fic, closer to the end than the beginning, at the beginning of the worst day of their lives. #Saturdark

Yasha hugged herself, backing away, crumpling into herself. She refused to meet their eyes, rubbing fitfully at her arms, looking over her shoulder pointedly, as if looking for an approaching figure - as if trying to find someone in the dim light and shadow of the great empty hall.

"Yasha?"

She grimaced, bowing into herself further, then straightened, then bowed again, groaning. She made a noise of confusion, then, kept curling over, slowly, until one of her legs crumpled and she went to a knee.

"Yasha!"

She paid Jester no heed, and then she went to both knees. She seemed confused, squinting, her teeth clenched and visible. She grabbed and pulled at her own hair.

"Yasha?"

Then she bent over, sagged as if a limp doll, until her forehead touched the ground. She started making a noise the group had never heard her make - low and broken, the groans of someone about to be ill, of agony coming from within, as if any movement - even breathing - hurt.

"Yasha," ventured Jester, again, and got down on her own knees to come close.

"Yasha?"

The moaning stopped, and the silence made their skin crawl, made them want to rip their hair out, made their teeth hurt. It went on for so long.

Into the dirt Yasha whispered, "I don't understand," and Jester felt sick, felt her stomach haul itself up her throat.

"What are you saying," said Yasha. She grimaced and - whatever she felt that made her face twist also caused her to heave. She released the ends of her hair, and dug her fingers into her face.

"Where did he go?"

Jester lost her composure immediately, and the sobs that escaped her rushed forth in a violent torrent, her head splitting with an immediate headache, twin bolts of lightning from under her eyes through the top of her skull.

"Yasha, I don't know. I don't know where he is," she said, stupidly.

She looked to their friends, all their faces masks of horror, useless to a one in the face of the truth: that Mollymauk was gone, and...

That Mollymauk was gone.
