1999 Wild Card: 27-13 WAS; In the first playoff game w/out Barry Sanders, the Lions (who made the playoffs at 8-8), fell down 27-0 and never stood a chance. Washington would lose in Tampa the next week. The Lions would not make the postseason again until 2011.

1991 NFC Championship Game: 41-10 WAS; Lions stood toe to toe for a half, trailing 17-10 at Halftime — then got blasted in the second half, capped by a Darrell Green Pick 6. Washington (again) went on to win the Super Bowl.

Here are the 3 prior playoff meetings between the Lions and Washington 1982 Wild Card: 31-7 WAS; Lions made the postseason w/a losing record because of a strike. 3 Joe Theismann TD passes and a Pick 6 finished the Lions against the eventual Super Bowl Champions.

This may be the most bonkers stat of them all. Even in those Championship years of the 1950s, the Lions never had consecutive 10+ win seasons. The Barry Sanders-era 90s Lions won 10+ games 3 times between 1991 and 1995 — but none came back to back. We are in uncharted waters in Detroit, y’all.
