Specifically, I am replying to the question, "Should [programming that 'may contain the discussion or promotion of gender identity themes'] be rated differently or contain relevant descriptions so that parents can make informed decisions?" No, it should not. "Congress [in 1996] determined that parents should be provided with timely information about the nature of upcoming video programming and have the ability to block violent, sexual, or other programming that parents believe is harmful to their children." I personally have many friends and colleagues who are transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender-nonconforming. That they exist is a fact. Labeling a program as harmful simply because it acknowledges that fact would communicate to viewers that anyone who is trans/NB/GNC is inherently dangerous, which in addition to simply being untrue would compromise the safety and well-being of all trans/NB/GNC people, including those who are children.
