I think I can make a strong case for the main character having OCD with religious themes rather than simply being religious, as well. (I do have a masters in social work with a focus on mental health)

I also have OCD and spend a lot of my “spare” (clinically mentally ill) time ruminating on social media’s relationship to psychosis, OCD, and clinically maladaptive thinking patterns/actions so maybe this book was written for me

I think it suffered from some pacing issues, and I wish there was more to chew on at the end… but I really enjoyed it overall!!! None of my criticism is about characterization or the “confusing twist” that I, personally, wasn’t confused by… so I do feel better than people complaining about that lol
