Further, my reality might not contain many things that are actually going on, but that I cannot observe. So is there even a point to try to establish and agreed upon reality? Instead maybe I should just be trying to establish and agreed upon emotional temperature.

What about my friend's feelings? What if it's important to them to talk about the election or they just don't feel like monitoring their conversations with me? How much of friendship is putting aside one's feelings? Should I be stronger? Should they be more careful?
