An outrageous attack on teenage referees at a 12U hockey game in Seattle this weekend. I coach youth hockey in Seattle and have worked with many of the young referees. Those kids bring kindness and respect to every game and deserve at least that much in return.

For those following along: I have cancer. Chemo didn't work. They switched me to palliative care recently in an effort to keep me around until mom & sis can visit at the end of the week. I'm told that's an optimistic goal. I'm OK with all of this; I have Kristen, & lived to see the Cubs win the WS.

In the hospital. I have a tiny stuffed giraffe to use as a stress ball when getting an IV or a shot. Not only do all the staff treat this as normal, but they stop & help me look for the giraffe if I'm about to get poked & can't find the stuffed animal. Empathy in action.

I found this Spanish language baseball instructional video from circa 1941 on YouTube. The channel, AV Geeks, is highly recommended if you're interested in old corporate and educational films. Anyway, the video has a bunch of early 40s MLB stars in it. Interesting to watch these guys play.

One of the worst things MLB has done is normalize viewing players’ salaries without discussing owners’ profits. These things happen in a context.
