Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 28/09/2026a 64K SRAM should do the job with a latch to retain the row address. Here's how I did it for a Spectrum +2 - i used a 128K SRAM as they are more available. The delay on CAS was needed for stability there 110
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 01/09/2026I actually find the small tips are not so good, because they dont have enough thermal mass to make joints well. I usually use a knife tip which does almost all work very well 140
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Start worrying when this guy shows up on the map 030
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 22/08/2026I could probably make a smaller one of the internal/external input version too using the same surface mount parts. The tape deck hum, i prefer to do mods to the tape deck itself to sort that out. Here's a picture of what I normally do. 030
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 21/08/2026I have a newer version which is entirely surface mount and designed to fit directly into a 48K spectrum. It's pretty much the same circuit without the "EXT IN" feature, using the LMV321 opamp. That can be found here: github.com/jaycee1980/z... 120
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 13/08/2026It looks like this inside. I also designed the USB adapter. 110
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 20/06/2026@h0ffman.bsky.social i know theyre not talking about you here.. theyd just have to go to modarchive.org ;) 1122
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 14/03/2026Did another spectrum hardwarey thing github.com/jaycee1980/z... 070
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 13/02/2026Finally getting somewhere with this Amiga USB power supply thingy.... 030
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 15/01/2026I had one of these.. it's still at my parents somewhere, albeit with a few blown LEDs and one bad transistor :) 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 19/11/2025I recently built a 500++ and decided I wanted 2MB chip ram as standard. I happened to have some 1Mx16 DRAMs so I came up with this. Not as oldschool as a trapdoor expansion though. Unfortunately on this one i messed up the pin spacing. Rev 2 will be right! 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 26/09/2025I always use a stall because urinals are gross.. they need to start putting this in their stalls too! 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 17/09/2025I swear no more tinkering or adding features.. I haven't even got the rev 2 boards from JLC yet! This will almost certainly be the release version though. Now it can measure the current being used and the i2c header is there to connect a small OLED display 070
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 08/08/2025Finally got the HUSB238 to work... turns out they die if connected to a live USB-C port but the power pin isnt powered! Now to program that STM8 to do all the useful stuff. I SO wish i'd broken out the serial TX/RX on the bloody thing 150
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 23/07/2025Do we know who was responsible for this ? :D 230
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 23/07/2025Here it is. The 5V voltage source and Rp represent inside the computer. The line labelled SIG would come from the fire button. Basically R3/C1 form the timing circuit... when C1 is charged enough, Q1 conducts making Q2 conduct until C1 discharges. Q2 effectively completes the circuit to ground. 220
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 23/04/2025Here's how I did it on an Issue Two. I used UF4004 instead of BA158 because they were easier to get at the time. As long as they are "fast" or "ultrafast" rectifier diodes they will work fine 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 15/04/2025Thats enough PCBing for today I think. Now to get one made and see if I can get some code running on it. 000
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 14/04/2025I took pictures of how crappy mine is ! The circular pcb is the lamp ballast - when I first got it, it had the remnants of the old wires on it! I cleaned it up and hot glued it in place Im thinking about rebuilding the whole thing in a project box 361
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 09/04/2025hm, probably not enough IO's on that arduino pro mini board, but you can use a shift register such as a 74HC595 to drive the segments. This is what I did in my bench PSU. There are two shift registers because it has two 4-digit displays. 120
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 12/02/2025Looks like theyre not fully complying though - here in the UK we see this 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 25/01/2025For transparency, here's my first ever recap job - done with nothing but an Antex CS iron on my own machine. I couldn't find a 22uF SMD cap in my collection so I did this as a TEMPORARY measure :) 010
Peter Mulholland @jaycee1980.bsky.social · 14/11/2024Yes.... i think i'll like it here... (if anyone gets this text we can be friends :) ) 140
