But we just saw drivers battling based on skills. Perhaps the skills and tools are different, but the skills are there all the same. I'll take actual sustained racing over being stuck in dirty air and DRS trains every time.

Artificial? No. The tools have changed. Instead of a static DRS zone, drivers now have more control. And much of the fighting we’re seeing isn’t “all battery” - battery deployment plays to strategy. Often times it’s deploy now, pay later. LOVING IT!

Sorry to the haters, but these regs are great. Cars can follow closer for longer and attacks are more sustained. Not only that, but two cars of equal pace can keep coming back at each other. This keeps battles going for longer and wears tyres faster. #F1

Nice. Looks like Ferrari have closed the gap slightly… let’s see how that translates to race pace! The start will be interesting. Lewis surely leading into turn one, and maybe gets a bit of respite if George is suppressed by Kimi or Charles (perhaps doubtful, re. Sprint) 🤞

Lewis seems very positive and hungry in his post-race interview. He’s encouraged! He knows he was quicker and he knows Merc aren’t *that* far ahead. He knows with a bit more car development he could be right in the fight. Haven’t seen that look in his eyes for a while. 💪 #F1

Lewis didn’t get the podium this time, but, never mind - just be encouraged that his race pace his back. It looked like he was the quicker of the two, which didn’t really happen last year. His time will come.

Charles post-race interview talking about how Merc not as far ahead in the race as in qualifying… I think the situation we have here is Merc is clearly a quicker car but on race pace Ferrari have quicker drivers. #F1

That was a fun race. Charles vs George in the early stages was constantly back and forth - just a shame Ferrari handed it to Merc far too early and easily. Both Ferraris off the line very quickly and Lewis rapid at the end. I think wins will come sooner rather than later. #F1

In all honesty, my biggest concern right now is the “super clipping”. Watching/hearing the cars just run out of breath and fall impotent at the ‘climax’ stage of a long fast straight, is so sad and depressing. #F1

As for Merc engine… other teams also have that engine and they’re not exactly troubling Merc at the front, so, it’s not all about compression ratios. Let’s just hope Ferrari can close a gap. And Kimi can at least keep things interesting.

It’s the start of a very long season. I don’t think everyone needs to panic before the first race has even happened. Perhaps Ferrari boys are really going to be fighting for 3rd place trophies all year, which, isn’t ideal but that’s the way the sport goes sometimes.
