There is a lot to like about Margo's Got Money Troubles, but my favorite is the theme song. It's a banger!

I feel like someone should start the rumor that Daylight Saving Time is something the left really wants because of climate change or something like that.

New Home Assistant card I made last night. As a salaried employee, display the dollar amount I’m effectively donating back to my company in free labor when I’m at my desk over 8 hours. Resets daily. This may come off as if I’m disgruntled, but it was only about real data of a thought experiment!

ILM did a lot of incredible work on this movie. I got to work on nearly all stages of visual effects on this one, from preproduction and virtual production, to post-production. I’m proud of how my team helped bring another story to the Tron universe. #pinchme

Google changing the Meet “Leave call” button from triggering on mouse-up to mouse-down is an act of psychological warfare. I used to press and hold as I finished my goodbyes. Now I vanish mid-sentence.

I saw the headline "Alien:Earth episode 5 is the best Alien movie in 39 years" thinking it was hyperbole. Just finished it and wow that wasn't an exaggeration. It kinda makes me wish we had 60 min feature films. I'd love to see this on the silver screen.

I made my own cocktail, which I shall dub the Bermuda Bramble! 1 oz of Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, fresh blackberry soda made from my backyard wild berry syrup, and a squeeze of lime. 🍋‍🟩 I’ve made some clunkers in the past but this is frickin’ delicious. #yum #cocktails

I just issued my first TLS certificate directly in Kubernetes against a Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Server after Terraforming the snot out of some Helm charts and a ClusterIssuer manifest with full Gitlab CI deployment. I feel like I need a section on my resume for just that one task.

I'm seeing a lot of chatter again about "how on earth did Gareth Edwards' THE CREATOR (2023) only cost xxx dollars and it looks so good and has amazing VFX?!?!" Well, here's us talking about exactly that for 45 minutes, or hear two minutes from Gareth himself below: youtu.be/amVkSiiZY4Y?...

Nice to hear that works for you! I’m okay with the tradeoff of the lock-in for the additional features I want: integrated issue management and CI/CD

It's not the entire thing, just the "bootstrap kernel", enough to standup or recover a Gitea server (self-hosted GitHub-clone) from cloud backups. Gitea supports GitHub Actions so I can build CI that can run self-hosted or from GitHub.com. github.com/jaxzin/jaxzi... #devops #selfhosted #homelab

As I was watching it I could see that this week’s episode of The Studio was not going to mention Apple or Tim Cook as a meta-reference to the story. It is so perfect to learn Apple asked to put Tim in there to replace <spoiler> and show leadership refused.

Update, I’ve got my Davis weather station data flowing into Home Assistant every few seconds instead of every 5 minutes. I did an end-run around their cloud service and I’m intercepting the equipment’s wireless signal using a USB radio and a Raspberry Pi. Pushed to HA over MQTT. #homeautomation

Nothing quite like the dopamine hit when a home automation project suddenly starts working. Tonight I got a Raspberry Pi with a USB software-defined radio running a radio receiver program in a Docker container capturing live weather station readings from my backyard.

Wally wanted me to play Inscryption which he claims is his favorite game. After playing it for a few hours I see why. If you mash up Myst, Pokémon, Blair Witch & The Ring, with Zelda. Sounds wild? It is!

Brian Jackson @jaxz.in · 10/03/2025

But lately Wally has been asking me to play 1-player, story-driven video games while he watches which I thought was odd at first, but now I realize this is our passive bonding. And they all are a variant of the prehistoric “sitting around the campfire telling stories” at their heart. 2/2

I appreciate that Daredevil: Born Again unapologetically starts with the assumption you've watched the original Daredevil series and makes references that you only understand if you are aware of Fisk's appearances in Hawkeye and Echo. That's the connected universe I love. #MarvelStudios #Daredevil
