John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 2hYeah long-tail strategy relies on shifting the ownership and risk to third parties to remain viable, every edge case creates operational friction, really need to trust partners 000

John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 4hI wonder if the bigger AI opportunity for SAP isn't making existing work cheaper or easier. It's going places SAP couldn't economically go before, new industries, new LOBs, more specialised processes. That's a much bigger prize than productivity gains. 100

John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 23/09/2026Every context switch puts real skin in the game. AI makes it cheap to fire off ideas, designs, plans, prompts and code But someone still has to absorb the context, work through the consequences and own the outcome That's the difference The chicken lays the eggs. The developer is still in the bbq 000
John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 23/09/2026Been thinking about ham and eggs. AI makes context switching easier for non-developers and vibe coders. AI can build the mental model for the next task. But developers still pay the cost. Flow breaks. Unfinished work nags. We may feel like the chicken, but the developer is still the pig. 100
John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 23/09/2026The anxiety of unfinished work used to stay at the keyboard. You walked the dog or went to the gym, and the work waited. With AI agents, the work keeps running. So instead of leaving work behind, you wake up wondering what your agents did overnight. 100
John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 23/09/2026Interesting. I wonder if this is something herdr.dev could abstract away.herdr.devHerdr: the runtime coding agents run onRun them anywhere. John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 21/09/2026Enterprise tech strategy often dictates the boring choice to optimise cost, skills, support and standardisation. But if AI makes development cheaper, can it promote autonomy of choice? This is an interesting example - Python vs SAP's CDS/RAP. Is it autonomy, or naive Not Invented Here in disguise? 010
John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 21/09/2026We moved to cloud and Clean Core because customisation was expensive, created technical debt, and was costly to own. If AI changes that cost curve, does the current enterprise development strategy still make sense? Maybe customers should own more of the glue, extensions and customisation. 000

John Patterson @jasper07.secondphase.com.au · 21/09/2026A lot of enterprises have principles like buy vs build, and SI-first for development outside their core domain. I wonder how AI changes these. Build more, or use AI to write the glue between what we buy? Does that push SIs toward fractional, outcome-based engagements? 220
