Make no mistake, Canadians support our PM's decision. Reference Angus Reid Institute. “Resolve & Apprehension: 76% Say Canada Was Right to Ditch Trade Talks, but Two-in-Five Have Fear for Their Jobs.” Angus Reid Institute, 2026. August 23. angusreid.org/resolve-appr....
Chart showing a horizontal breakdown of responses to a poll question. In Canada, "The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the Survivors of these institutions." You can find out more here: www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/16311301...

Southern Ontario's air quality index (AQHI) is at 10 meaning high risk as wildfire smoke moves in. Those at high risk for respiratory distress should stay indoors and everyone else should avoid strenuous exercise. My heart goes out to evacuees and firefighters in western and central Canada.
A screenshot from Weather.ca showing High Risk (very poor) air quality at AQHI. It warns that 'At Risk' population should reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities. The 'General Population' should consider rescheduling activities if you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation.

I asked ChatGPT about a fictional scenario where the US invades Canada with suggestions of major battles. It gave me that and asked if I'd like a map with it. I agreed. Judging by the result, AI won't be replacing the mapmakers soon.
A map showing battles in a fictional scenario where the US invades Canada was generated by ChatGPT. Multiple ities are misspelled, in the wrong location, or both, in Canada and the US.

It did, Eastern and Central Ontario. Our city, Peterborough got hit by the worst. We had downed trees, branches, and power lines. Most parts of the city had no power for 1-2 days, some were without for a week! Beautiful but disastrous! I took a couple of pictures but not great quality.

Amazing how survival rates have gone up, some drastically.

Is America great yet?
Chart showing stock markets in Germany, China, UK, Canada, Japan and the US from when Trump was sworn in until today. A centre horizontal line shows the baseline where stocks were when Trump came into power. We see all the markets except China dropping sharply with the UK, Canada, Japan and the US below the baseline and Germany still above. The drop from each market's highest point to now range from -8 to -12 with Japan and the US getting hit with the worst. The US is 10% below the baseline.

The stock markets did bottom out in March 2020 but they rebounded although it took some of them until summer to get back to where they were. I don't blame Trump for the stock market then but I don't give him credit for the recovery either. He was simply irrelevant.
Chart from Yahoo Finance showing Nasdaq, S&P and Dow Jones indices in 2020. There is a large drop in March and a rebound over the next few months with Nasdaq recovering losses in May, S&P by July, and Dow Jones also by July. The stocks continued rising with some blips until where the chart ends in March 2021.

Here's a snippet from ChatGPT. I asked it to compare and contrast reasons why tariffs would be good or bad for the economy and make a final determination. The result wasn't surprising and agrees with what most economists would say.
ChatGPT log shows that overall tariffs are bad for the economy. Too long to include the text here. Sorry.

It didn't take long for grocery stores in Canada to help their customers punish American producers. I saw this today. Note the yellow maple leafs on the price tags.

Amazing what a few months can do. Canadian nationalism has reversed the fortunes of the Liberals. Trump's actions could help re-elect a leftist party that was dead in the water. www.ctvnews.ca/video/2025/0...
A screen grab from CTV News showcasing an Angus Reid poll in December vs. one now. The shows a surge in support for the Liberals to 42%, ahead of the Conservatives at 37%. It was formerly 16% to 45% respectively!

The Whiner-in-Chief is bitching again.
Donald J. Trump post on Truth Social:
"The European Union, one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the World, which was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States, has just put a nasty 50% Tariff on Whisky. If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES. This will be great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the U.S.

Most flyers and advertising in Canada are itemizing nationally-produced products. The app for my favourite grocery store has this section:
Screenshot from a grocery app that contains the following text:
Heading reads, "Your shopping list:" with a button under that reads, "Swap and shop" with Maple Leaf" and subtext that reads, "Swap to groceries prepared in Canada."

The important thing to know now is that there isn't sustained human-to-human transfer. I don't know about my country but the US has stockpiled millions of doses of the H5N1 vaccine but it's for an older type so it's unknown how effective it is.
Poster from CDC explaining what we know about how H5N1 Bird Flu is spreading.

Does the US want a trade war with Canada? They might want to think about where their energy comes from.

Oh, the ole' trope about women being so emotional while men base things on facts. Who is more likely to batter their spouse? Who is more likely to abuse children sexually? Who fills the prisons? Who is more likely to commit random acts of violence like school shootings or public bombings?
Screenshot of Bluesky post and response. It reads:
Mrs. Betty Bowers @mrsbettybowers.bsky.social says:
UNFUN FACT: The is the first incoming Congress to have fewer woman than the one before it.

Reply by Dr. Nikolas Van Helsing MD says:
So?
Actually it should be better since things won't be based on emotions but facts

A comic shows a couple at a table with a waiter. Next to them is a table with a dish on it, but the customer is gone with a cloud of smoke rising from where they sat. The couple look slightly alarmed and the waiter says, "Is it my understanding that the gentleman ordered bother that pasta and the antipasti". The comic is taken from the Surreal McCoy at www.thesurrealmccoy.com
