For my anniversary today, my wife and I went out for a fabulous meal at @bjsrestaurants.bsky.social , then went on a #writing quest. Tried to go to our usual Denny’s, but it was closed for services. Drained my computer at a coffee shop that wouldn’t let us recharge. Ended up at the theater diner!

That is what I want for all writers—to love it as much as I do. Find a way to enjoy the process as well as the product. Drink of the soul-mana and expand yourself through the work.

Two more agent rejections today. I’m actually proud of myself for not feeling bad about it-I know the book is excellent, so if every one of them says “no,” that doesn’t change. #amquerying

Yes! Oh my gosh! In my dark academy fantasy, we have the "chicken." Apparently, in his freshman year, our MC accidentally set a chicken on fire with magic, but no one explains this for two books.

Hey! Working on Book 3 of my #arsmagica saga today. Book 1 is in line edits, Book 2 is simmering. Excited for this project. We're following the life of one particular magus, Roland of Flambeau, as he grows up, into his power, the politics of the Order of Hermes, and all that.

I mean, you can. I don't think it works well, though :D I've tried that. Digitally, no one finds you. In person, I do all right. Good luck writing!

When I got my award, the best part wasn’t the ceremony. It was one guy saying “Oh! You wrote the Poseidon book! I loved that one!”

Deep in the edit trenches on my #arsmagica #fantasy novel. So much fun to make a book better than it started. Hoping to have this one out in a few months! #amwriting #writesky

#readsky I would love a book recommendation, something that it just so fundamental to your love of reading and literature that you feel everyone should have read it. Don’t worry about genre, as long as it’s #fiction, because I’ll self-select if I hate something. #amreading

Oh, man! In March, I published my 14th novel and my first horror. In April, I won the Ozma Grand Prize for Fantasy Fiction. I’m writing the first prose novels set in the world of #arsmagica. It’s going to be a 7 book series, and two are drafted. And I’m submitting to fellowships and contests.

Olivia's journey toward a healthier mental state is a fraught one. The reason they have trauma to begin with is a big, hulking spoiler! I don't want to spoil this WIP for y'all, so that's all I'm going to say on the matter. 😜 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“That’s very good,” Grace said. “Finding your own way to cope with what you feel and think is a great step in the right direction.” She paused for a brief moment. “Maybe video journaling is your outlet.”
Olivia said, “Yeah!” and thrust triumphant fists into the air. “I’m doing good!” But Olivia didn’t feel like they were doing good. They felt affixed in place, moving through a painful past without a clear north star to guide them. They preferred feeling numb to the complex emotions now bubbling up inside of them, threatening to burst. “But I ain’t feelin so great.”
“Tell me how you’re feeling and what’s on your mind.”
“I still feel stuck,” Olivia explained. “Like there’s a button I gotta press to process all this garbage and it just ain’t there. There’s gotta be an answer somewhere. A real solution to tha heckin problem.”
“There is no easy answer or solution,” Grace said. “Only time spent self-reflecting and trying to see your reality for what it truly is.”
“This trauma crap is gonna keep croppin up fer me unless I really dig down deep, ain’t it?” Olivia asked in a shocking moment of clarity. “I gotta get all these big thoughts and ugly feelings out or I’mma get right back into a weird loop of suck.” They paused to scan Grace’s face. “Isn’t that right?”
“You’re onto something,” Grace said. “Ruminating is what it’s called.
Olivia said, “Ruminating, huh?” and crossed their arms over their buxom chest. “Do y’all think I got intrusive thought crap like Al’s got?”

#wipsnips Svar nodded, his arms thick inside his blue robes, his eyes a bit sunken—a sign of the fatigue still present. “That’s what I was told. Closest city, just a bit north of here. It’s where we’ll be getting most of our folk and supplies, once we’re ready.” #writesky #amwriting

That’s a very good idea. My WIP series protagonist has a female best friend that he writes to, often, and he doesn’t hide things from her.

If I had Aladdin’s Lamp, I’d be looking for a way to free everyone from “must” so they “can” do the things that speak to their hearts. I don’t know what that wish would be, but it’s where I’d want to go with it.

Glad you found what works for you! I started with Docs because I lost half a novel when someone stole my laptop. As for organizing…I don’t 🤪 I just write from Page 1 to Page whatever and hit The End, so I don’t use organization tools.

Writing can be very vulnerable. Not everyone will love your story. But if YOU love it, then there are readers who will, too. So I’m glad you’re encouraged! I want you to find readers!

It’s as if people can be multifaceted and have broad, wide-ranging opinions. Which we can. And should. No one should do only one thing. Keep it up.

At dinner last night, my almost-10-year-old daughter recommended “Because of the Rabbit” to me to read. I finished it today. Cynthia Lord, the author, did a wonderful job with the story and it brought me to tears, but the best part was that I could see why my girl liked it so much. #amreading
