Heyo all! I just wanted to say I've setup a dev blog to write up development updates for Chirp Chirp and more! Check it out - RobotsGoBoom.dev/devlog I'm also going to share some prototype ideas there as well, such as the King's Field directional-combat mashup, "The Vagrant Soul". #indiedev #godot

Sometimes you need a friend to help light your way... literally! I'm starting to hookup the mechanics for your wisp friend following you throughout darker levels later in the game. I have a fun sequence planned as well... but no spoilers mwahaha! 🤫 Reposts appreciated! 🤗 #indiedev #gamedev #godot

I've been working on setting up the Singing mechanic to work with quest flow and finally got the basics up and running! You'll start to unlock notes to different songs as you talk to Wisps, and those songs can be used to unlock certain things, like fast travel points! 🎶🐦 #indiedev #gamedev #godot

Heyo all! 👋 - Just posted up my monthly dev update (tinyurl.com/chirpchirpsept) and a little key art mock-up I've been working on recently. This is to help prep for the awesome Caitlin (www.caitarikostudio.com) joining in as contract artist to help with concept art! WOO! #indiedev #gamedev
Key Art mockups for my game Chirp Chirp. It shows your little bird character jumping off a platform and reaching for one of the Wisps (you collect these in game), with the background showing the bottom and top of the well, light leaking through to the bottom.

Heyo all! 👋 - Did you know that the little Wisps you find throughout Chirp Chirp are super shy and may hide at first... but once you're able to chat with them, they'll share all the secrets! This was a fun little mechanic to add based on playtest feedback! #indiedev #gamedev #godot

Heyo all 👋 - Since it's Friday Fun-Day for my game Chirp Chirp 🐦, I wanted to play around with some look dev. I'm still exploring as I try and find the art vibe for the game (super blocky as I greybox levels still), but had a fun time messing around. Whatcha think? #indiedev #gamedev #godot

🔍👁️ - The first 15 level sections up and running in Chirp Chirp - aiming for around 60+ for shipping, along with some rest areas in-between. I really enjoy working on single screen levels, with the biggest challenge making sure that mechanics keep adding new excitement to the mix! #indiedev #godot

Heyo all! 👋 Sometimes you forget the words to a song and just need some of your friends to remind you! As your Little Bird meets new Wisps, they'll share notes to new songs that you'll learn throughout your adventure - which could unlock some fun secrets along the way! #godot #gamadev #indiedev

Heyo all! Woo this has been a fun mechanic to get up and running in Chirp Chirp - SINGING! 🐦‍⬛🎶 The UI is rough right now, but the idea is that there are several songs the player will be learning throughout the game that unlocks progression and secrets along the way! #indiedev #gamedev #godot

Heyo all! 👋 It's been such a productive month on Chirp Chirp - Mainly been focusing on a lot of under the hood stuff to prep for a big push on content creation side for August and onwards. Menu systems, steam integration, input management, save system (and more!). So fun! #indiedev #gamedev #godot

Woo woo, spent today getting a testing branch setup on steam for Chirp Chirp, and now I just played through the prototype on my Steam Deck, how cool is that!? First time going through this process - big thanks and shoutout to @fritters.dev / @goblintek.dev for helping out! #indiedev #godot

🐦‍⬛ Some fun Chirp Chirp updates - I've been tweaking the player movement / abilities based on some great feedback - Now the player can Air-Dash along with Air-Stomp, and each ability has 2 levels you can unlock, with the 2nd giving you "slow mo" to help better time the execution. #gamedev #godot

"Hello little bird!" I liked the idea "upgrading" your ability to chirp as a bird, but didn't have time to expand on it in the game jam version. Maybe in the full version there will be multiple upgrades that allow you to communicate with different friends / env? 🐤🎶 robotsgoboom.itch.io/chirp-chirp

If you get a chance to play, let me know what your completion time is - I have a timer setup and folks have been posting some solid times (if you can beat around 10-15 mins, you're the new champ!).

Happy bday! I tried to buy a couple shirts but your website is asking to sign in? I couldn't find a place to make an account so not sure if this is an error or not.

Heyo all! 👋 Another monthly update from my indie-dev adventures! Got a lot of great feedback and playtest videos for Project Duelz (thanks all!) - and during that time, I started up and older idea and re-did it in Godot (goodbye Unreal!) - Project Husk! More to come! 🥳 #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Wtf are we even doing here? Just saw this stupid ass video pop up for nvidia's new DLSS 5 tech... and were all suppose to be cool with this? I saw Digital Foundry pop up a video as well and of course they're down with it... "its the same texture asset... just going through different lighting" HUH!?

It's a very dumb thing on my end... but I managed to fix some icky ui stretching issues on my current playtest build. It has been bugging me for awhile but figured it was a bigger task to solve down the road... nope! Instead of viewport, I switched it to canvas items instead, whoops!

Also started working on getting some narrative events and workflows up and running - very modular which makes life a bit easier moving forward!

Also added a fun "slow-mo" effect on match end, adds a bit of "omph" during the death blow.

Also added some more UI feedback during each round of battle to help give a bit more context on outcomes per turn, as well as having the characters now "move to" position to improve readability. Still A LOT to work on here!

Wrapping up the 2nd month of solo dev on "Project Duelz" with the focus on getting another Playtest Build out for more folks to try. Now folks can fight their way through a basic encounter map + earn player upgrades before fighting the "boss". #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #godot

After actions are set, you can watch as the battle plays out - and player and opponent may trigger a clash (for movement and attacks) flipping a coin to see who comes out on top. There are different ways to win the duel - by striking down your opponent, winning on points, or covering more ground.

Jason Lavoie @jasonlavoie.robotsgoboom.dev · 09/02/2026
Each round will have the player roll and setup what their next 3 actions will be. The opponent’s actions are displayed at the start, so the player can work towards trying to counter each move, while also fighting against rng. Merge die to create more powerful versions of actions.
