For me it wasn't so much that it jumped the shark as it was a show that I always had mixed feelings about. I tried a rewatch a couple of years ago and got about 5 episodes in before I felt like the show had aged in ways that heightened the bad parts instead of the good.

This was really fun. I'm sure that puppet was even more amazing in person. In my recent Farscape rewatch, one of the things I loved was how often the actors would reach out and grab the puppets, or the puppets would bite the other actors. I don't think I'd be able to resist touching them.

This reminds me of a sign I saw when I was visiting a mountain in China. I suppose you could take it as demotivational.

Part of the issue is that written communication with someone whose face you've never seen is a vastly higher % of all communication. Sure, someone in the 80s had no problem saying nasty things to a faceless beurocrat they wrote a letter to. Today, a lot of people spend several hours a day doing that

I don't think LLMs can actually feel pain, but people making torture chambers for them feels sociopathic. Like torturing small animals as a way of dipping your toe into enjoying other's pain.

From the BTS episode, the first round took well over an hour. It seemed much shorter to us, but from their point of view, it was already obvious that the filming was going to run really late. His bit doesn't make sense without that context, but his votes don't make sense without the bit.

I don't know how why they came about, but the reason they are allowed to continue despite the problems is because their members contribute more money to the universities after graduation. Apparently the sense of community that they generate leads to more nostalia and a willingness to give.

Zach, I'm with a lot of the other responders on this one. Yes, the potential is great, but the methods Musk has required his people to use to get there are dangeous and should not be supported. We're talking about putting things in people's heads. Taking shortcuts should not be glossed over.

I saw an argument about a show the other day where someone commented that by episode 5 the characters were "figuring out" the mystery. Someone disagreed, saying that no, they had not figured it out yet. It went on and on, but they were just arguing about "figured" vs. "figuring".

Most arguements online have at least one side desperately *avoiding* defining terms. People often know the thing they're talking about falls apart when examined, so they'll talk around it as hard as they can.
