The borrowings of words into Old Irish: part 2 Old Irish clann ‘plant’, ‘offspring, family, race’ / Modern Irish clann offspring’, ‘family’, ‘race’ Borrowed from Latin planta ‘sprout, offspring’ Many Romance words also come from Latin (by genetic inheritance): Sp. planta, It. pianta, Fr. plante

The borrowing of words into Old Irish: part 1 Old Irish póc 'kiss' / Modern Irish póg 'kiss' Probably a loanword from the Latin phrase ōsculum pācis (kiss of peace), entering Old Irish via a Brittonic language. Happy Valentine's day!
