The latter is measured and thoughtful, while the former is an absolute goblin with no regard for decency (not an insult, just an analysis of his tenacity in getting ahead of his better judgment due to the demands of the medium) 060

Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 12/09/2026OpenAI is seeing open-source models doing better in terms of hallucination rates, user control, and prices. They need to spin this narrative to justify their current operations and possibly, if my hunch is correct, lobby to ban any non-frontier model. 010
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 12/09/2026You're already seeing this play out with OpenAI offering the US govt stake in the company. Again, with Altman's talks about turning AI inference into a utility. They are trying to position themselves as the only ones with market control, despite others having better offers in both price and quality. 100
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Aside from pumping stocks, they're trying to make AI look as dangerous as possible so they can pitch themselves as the one company with the expertise to control it, not China or Anthropic. Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Frankly, so much of it is the honour system. They somewhat assume that if you're an author from a uni (in the Dutch system at least), your academic supervisor did the heavy lifting. But not even the supervisors have the time to check each citation and whether it conforms to claims made. It's a mess. 040
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Primaries are difficult to poll, and (personal theory here), since these were open primaries, Republican voters were trying to ratfuck further left candidates, which I don't think polling methods can account for. 000

Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 27/07/2026I like that he makes the shots accessible to other formats. As for what they add? Seeing them in the larger format adds scale, which is what the format is best for. Maybe it's gimmicky, but that's fine. It would be worse if it was incomprehensible on other screens, I say. 000
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 27/07/2026It's an audio-visual medium to me. I don't mind his lack of interest in dialogue. It doesn't take me out of the movies. But the bland relationships are an issue, particularly in a story like Dune, where palace intrigue is a major factor. 220
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Sometimes an artist picks the tools that inspire them the most. Frankly, I think his style got a lot better since he chose IMAX. A lot of his movies from before have very "meh" cinematography. At least with the IMAX stuff, he's forced to pay more attention to the framing and it shows in parts. 100
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Villaneuve is bad at dialogue and love interests, in general. If I had to pick at Arrival, it would be the Adams and Renner relationship. They make it work through acting, but boy, are they bland together. Same with Paul and Chani in Dune. He's openly stated he thinks dialogue is less important. 110
Jarz @jarz.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Well, that's the trouble with IMAX cameras. You have to change reels every minute or two, if I'm not mistaken. It's even lower with 70mm. Although I think he makes it work, because faster cutting creates urgency and he's often interweaving flashbacks and so on. 100
