Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 02/07/2025Everyone’s always saying “Jared, I simply don’t have enough podcasts to listen to.” Well, fret no more. Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 04/05/2025Whoa! Jack Brown aka “The Avid Assistant” on YouTube reviewed my book, Every Frame Counts. He talks about what the book is, and just as importantly, what the book is *not*. Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 18/04/2025I finally received my own copies in the mail. Can’t wait to read each one. Check out page 96… 130
Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 13/04/2025The reviews are in, the author approves. PS: The page turning is due in part to both the compelling contents of the text as well as the helpful nature of the cross-referencing. 031

Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 25/02/2025Frame.io has a great blog post breaking codecs down, too. Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 25/02/2025In all seriousness, David Kong’s video from (gasp!) nearly a decade ago is still my go-to recommendation for those wanting to learn about codecs and containers.vimeo.comHow Codecs Work - TutorialIf you work with video, it's vital to understand how codecs work and how they change your image. Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 25/02/2025Unfortunately “Every Frame Counts” does *not* cover codecs like 1.2 Yums, Tizz 5D, or Horngut 222… apologies, @alanresnick.bsky.social. Other codecs and naming conventions are outlined in the Turnovers chapter though. Here’s a screenshot of how I organize my DNxHR SQ media onto Nexis workspaces. 130

Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 17/02/2025I do it with a combination of imported JPEGs and preset sequences. The sequences have a piece of blank media with a color effect on them, and a SubCap effect that allows me to change the text without creating new media. Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 11/02/2025I hope it's a worthy contribution to the community @dr0id.bsky.social and @coreyfrost.bsky.social have fostered here on social media—I don't post much and I'm not great at marketing (I'm an Assistant Editor, after all, not some PR genius). 241
Jared Simon @jaredsimon.com · 11/02/2025I talk a lot about @avidmediacomposer.bsky.social but it's a mix of technical and holistic tips, tricks and notes. Not a definitive guide, more so insight into the mind and workflow of a First Assistant Editor in a scripted environment. 140
