No, that's what I thought too before the study (more complex/broader immunity in adults as the main reason for higher susceptibility in children). But it's the imprinting with the ancestral strain that provides the class 1 antibodies, that crossprotect against BA.3.2.2. So this is the main reason.

Lack of ancestral SARS-CoV-2 imprinting promotes BA.3.2.2 infection in children

Interesting data from Scotland! Vaccination rates are not that different between US and Germany for Influenza and SARS-CoV2 (both far too low for high risk patients). But I see that the way of data collection is very different, RKI data seem to me to be more reliable in this case.

Jan Hartmann @janhartmann.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
What I find surprising (these are the real numbers based on raw data from ICOSARI, the numbers in my former post done with Gemini were only extrapolations from you graph) ist that the burden of COVID compared to Influenza in Germany(1:3.5) is even much lower than in your data about the US.

Jan Hartmann @janhartmann.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
Ok, no need to explain, Gemini did it for me and provided this overview about cases and incidences. Really interesting.

This is great thank you! But I don't understand what 'one year running total' means and how it's possible that the curve for COVID is constantly moving and curves for influenza and RSV stay at the same level for most of the year? Can you extract absolute No's for each season (e.g. 7/24 until 7/25)?
230
Jan Hartmann @janhartmann.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
And I wonder if the RKI-Sentinel data allow to compare disease burden (hospitalizations) caused by COVID and Influenza for the last 3 years/seasons? That would be interesting.

Jan Hartmann @janhartmann.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
Besides of the clear and hardly surprising tendency of a decreasing disease burden I find interesting that the curves show very nicely that COVID has headed towards a true seasonality by now (which has been questioned many times on social media).
280
Jan Hartmann @janhartmann.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
The curve landing at zero is simply a statistical artifact caused by the way the data are collected. ICOSARI data always lag several weeks because hospitals report with a delay. RKI explicitly notes that the most recent values will still be adjusted. Nevertheless, the trend is perfectly clear.

The White House has turned COVID.gov from a public health resource into a politically charged platform promoting the lab-leak theory and attacking specific scientists and the pandemic response in general. Let’s fact check its 5 headline claims… 🧵
The virus possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature.
2.

Data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans. This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events.
3.

Wuhan is home to China’s foremost SARS research lab, which has a history of conducting gain-of-function research (gene altering and organism supercharging) at inadequate biosafety levels.
4.

Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) researchers were sick with COVID-like symptoms in the fall of 2019, months before COVID-19 was discovered at the wet market.
5.

By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t.

That's all.

Trotzdem unklare Formulierung.
