I am neither a political scientist nor a therapist but I could be forgiven for thinking that perhaps what the world needs right now is for more people to just enjoy watching baby flamingos.

Dear everyone, Yes, students now are different than students ten years ago. I would worry - a lot - if they were not. They have different skills, different forms of knowledge, different new words. Finding all that out is one of the joys of continuing to teach.

I've just been on BBC Wales, talking about 'screen time' - for about three minutes. Main message I want to get across? * Engage with your child - discuss what they're seeing * Every family, every child is different * Most parents are doing the best they can!

I'm in a group that was doing a marathon of hats for September - and herewith, the 26th hat I've knit this month. Not bad, considering I was doing other stuff all last week! #ShowMeYourKnits

If you follow me, you know I knit. A lot. I am putting that to good use in November, to raise money for Alzheimer's research. You can follow my progress, here... and this will, obviously, be repeated nearer the time. raise.ing/po9pzngg180zy

A couple of notes about all the knitting... * I knit with a lot of cheap yarn. Mainly because it's what I have around but also because it's easy care - almost all of my knitting goes to people who probably aren't going to have time/space to 'hand wash, dry flat'...
