Planted in the age of Shakespeare, Carshalton's 400 year old 'miracle tree', has survived several arson assaults, one of which sent flames half way up a hollow area inside, thus its hobbit door. It has been recognised as one of London’s twenty greatest specimens. #carshalton #tree #trees #parklife

135 Shaftesbury Avenue. Currently in use as a cinema, the Saville Theatre was leased by Brian Epstein. Before managing the Beatles, Epstein had trained at RADA. The Saville promoted new works by writers, occasionally falling foul of censorship laws by staging plays with 'obscene' content or nudity.

Maison Bertaux's, Soho. This is London's oldest patisserie, founded in 1871 Monsieur Bertaux, a Communard fleeing Paris, arrived with an armful of recipes. Famous customers have included Virginia Wolf and Karl Marx. I used it a setting in my novel, My Counterfeit Self. #lovelondon
