When you have a labrador the 'treat tin' is always half empty! 😂

😂. We have hundreds of voles and they catch me out everytime they run out of the compost pile! Mine is more of a girly shriek and then look round in complete embarrassment to see who heard me 😳 😂

I promise you, officer. These ARE my Christmas potatoes. Yes, they are called Charlotte. I know it looks bad! 🤣

All being well, carrots in time for Christmas, and then on into early spring. Last year I had a bumper crop. I am a couple of weeks later with the sowing but the warm soil should help with quick germination. I'll cover with some cardboard until they appear

My task yesterday and today was to build this high carrot bed. We have a carrot root fly problem at the allotments, and they always manage to find a way through mesh. I filled this from my compost heap!

We had some fairly good and steady rain two nights ago here in Somerset. It did a good job for the allotment. Really hoping for more today but so far a few clouds and lots of sunshine.

So, last week we had our allotment sunflower competition. Lots of lovely entries and very worthy winners. Except me. My sunflowers refused to make an appearance until 7 days later! 😂 #sunflowers#allotment#summerflowers

It's incredibly difficult to keep up with watering when there is no supply to the allotment. I'll get more water to them and hope they give me something before winter. Fingers crossed. The farmer delivers 1 tonne bags of mulch for £35. I get a couple of them a year. Time for another load!

You are so lucky. They all look great. My celeriac is looking so sad. I might just about get something from the leaves for veg stock this year.

It's a tough year on the allotment with the drought. Having no water supply means a constant trek bringing it to the plot from home. It's all worth it though when the runner beans give you flowers so pretty they could be in a vase! This heirloom variety is very aptly called 'Sunset'

I would love to have a go at this. I have some very large clumps of chives that need lifting and dividing this autumn. It would be a start for next year. Such a lovely idea.

That looks fabulous and what a great idea. Do you cut it back in the winter?

I saw a Clouded Yellow flying around my allotment last week. I have never seen one before. What a wonderful sight it was. You were so fortunate to get a photo.

Who is sowing seeds for later crops on their plot in July? I've just got carrots started. Sown beetroot, spring onions and started late peas (Douce Provence). More radishes to go in and dwarf French Beans as the voles have decimated my early ones.

A few weeks ago these appeared in the field by our house. Lovely chat with the farmer and permission to photograph them. Primarily I am a wedding photographer so this was something completely different. Although could still be likened to the usual all guest group shot! 😂

Fab to connect with you as well. I'm about 10 miles from Yeovil. Lovely village and a thriving allotment community. I think I have a lot to learn on here but looking forward to the journey. I will definitely be taking a look at your videos. 😀

Just joined Bluesky today and looking forward to sharing a few things going on in my world here in Somerset. I have an allotment with gorgeous views and a summerhouse for garden tools, tea and contemplation!
