There is a dark and yowling void in the house. A fuzzy-edged creature between this world and the next which slumps in the corners, distended belly hanging slack over splayed hips and sharp knees. It screams with its teeth outside its mouth. Vacant, golden eyes glow around narrow slitted pupils in a pointed face, which rotates impossibly atop the thick neck, gazing through us unsettlingly as we brush our teeth, wash dishes, play video games. Wherever we go, it is there. It slinks silent between the screeches, appearing abruptly in the middle of a room, faithful scrap of string always under the splintering claws and winding about the floor in cryptic patterning like an omen. No matter the hour or cheerfulness of the sun through gauzy drapes, the dark thing persists in its maddening eldritch howling.

Even in the innocent light of early dawn, we are permitted no rest. Yowling and scratching at the bedroom door, the creature haunts us without mercy. A shrill ululation echoes in the hall. We cannot comprehend the message in the noise and may never understand the meaning behind the portentous string shapes, but the call of the void shrieks eternal through our home and the head twists toothy and sinister above the warbling throat and this is life in the house of the yowling void.
