Elections Ecuador 9/02: Right-wing president Noboa finished on top with 44.4%, but only narrowly ahead of left-wing rival Luisa Gonzalez (43.9%). The indigenous candidate Leonidas Iza ended third with 5,26%. The Indigenous vote will be decisive for runoff vote scheduled for April 13.

Met deze beslissing tast de toekomstige regering ook de internationale positie van ons land aan. Ontwikkelingssamenwerking, defensie en diplomatie zijn drie poten van dezelfde kruk. Zaag er één af, en je ondermijnt de sterke positie van België in het buitenland.
