We each created 2 things: * nametag that lights up * something that moves Some intriguing builds like the accidental spirograph drawbot and a disco snail! 011

Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 20/05/2026The counting collections particularly were a big hit (I love watching the youngest ones count — and we had a 5th grader encouraging them on too!) 020
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Early math people!! If you had the opportunity to: 1) talk/present for 5-7 minutes to families of incoming kindergarteners about math they can do w/their child (+ table for more info) 2) visit school-feeding apartment complex to share w/families of young kids about early math… What would you do?? 110

Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 14/04/2025One of the most interesting #CountingCollections setups I’ve seen, particularly the use of ten frames. 010
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 15/03/2025How many? How did you count? (I found the number and arrangement of the lights very intriguing) 000
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 12/01/2025And to clear it up, we were in fact not following the rules at all. 020
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 12/12/2024Had a great time watching #CountedOut tonight and listening to a discussion with @mathforlove.bsky.social and the rest of the crowd + unexpectedly running into some old friends. Glad I powered through my after work teacher exhaustion and made it there! 161
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 28/11/2024A little #choralcounting today as students explored counting down by 10s while modeling the count using base 10 blocks in small groups. (And what happens if we go more in either direction). Favorite comment before we started: “Oh yay! We’re choral counting again!” 0111
Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 28/11/2024The culmination of our unit on plants, trees, seeds, and the interconnectedness of humans & nature. Students chose trees to tell stories about, created their own stories, then cut + combined parts of their stories with others in their group to tell one narrative about trees. 000

No idea if I’m doing this right, but let’s start out with something fun from a side quest during my CMC South trip. What do you notice? What do you wonder? What math questions could you ask? 591

Janaki Nagarajan @janakialeena.bsky.social · 13/03/20244th graders debating if zero really exists or not (part 1): -Zero is a “neutral space” between negative and positive numbers -Zero is something because you can append it to numbers to make new ones -Zero exists (sort of) because 100x0=0, which changes the 100 into 0, but 100+0=100 (no change) 140
