Shipped some durable object code today and response times for a particular call went from 500ms to 15ms. Nice one!

Signed up for my first Jiu Jitsu competition for next month (blue belt, masters 3 aka old people division). Hoping to not die and also to have a good time.

This a great read about the state of AI. Blew through the whole thing this morning and left feeling optimistic and excited about the state of tech (somehow!)

I did a talk about LLM-based codemods last February and things have gotten so much better since then. Fun to watch!

Yeah you got our 7 panels beat by over 10x! 🇬🇧 ☔️

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 15/12/2024

Yeah home batteries and heat pumps. They’re all £££

010

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 15/12/2024

I have solar panels here in London but can’t afford a battery for our home so end up selling back excess at really low rates. Have been dreaming of the idea of a community battery that could be shared by residential PV owners. This sounds like that, but better

The UK government put out at 100+ page report about its going to transition to clean power and electricity by 2030. Super impressive. You can read it all here. www.gov.uk/government/p...

I do wonder if this is what they’re hoping to avoid by cutting a lot of management out and adopting a leaner model. Less politicians in the works building their kingdoms. But surely it wasn’t just these middle managers who are responsible for this behaviour. It’s the culture from the top

000

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

I remember being fairly shook at reinvent announcements and presentations that were basically just fake. Quotes about how much the software changed their business when it hadn’t even been written or adopted yet. And middle leadership frequently lying to senior leadership about progress and timelines

100

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

There’s a lot of mistrust in leadership at all levels about if they’re trying to do what’s best not just for employees, but also for customers and the broader communities.

I was at Amazon and AWS for 2 years each and *mostly* had good experiences, but they’re really going through it over there at the moment.

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

Hearing some bad things about morale at Amazon and AWS at the moment with the impending 5-days a week return to office and general frustration with leadership 😬

For the same price you could get 20 pocket operators and string them altogether. Way more fun

Ha my kid (14) is hoping to do one of these. He's obsessed with vintage clothes.

Today at @powells.bsky.social in Portland, I was flipping through 2600 magazine, reminiscing about zines and hacker culture and learning tech for fun and for the community and even as a way to challenge the system. Kind of corny but I do miss those days!

Pretty big let down that every view we got of the actual VisionPro device was essentially on an ad. Tim didn’t put it on for example (or even hold one). Guessing the engineering team is gonna be pushing it hard to meet those deadlines 😬

000

Jamund Ferguson @jamund.bsky.social · 05/06/2023

Cool that we get eyes 👀 on the #VisionPro, but will we get legs🦵?

Off to see Les Miserables with my daughter. Her birthday gift to me! Such a great show.

Node made some choices around spec following and performance that are making this transition difficult. Still hoping a future node can smooth this out a bit somehow!
