Oenithera cespitosa (fragrant evening primrose) bloomed for the first time in the garden! Heart shaped petals, deeep deep flower, and needing to wait until dark (or early morning) to see it open.

First penstemon in our garden are blooming!
Sea foam green broad leaved plant with elongated blue-violet flowers attached in all directions from the tip of the bloom stem. Large rocks with white quartz inclusions, and dried standing grasses sit in the mid-background. In the background, a small round pergola and a semi closed blue sky

Just checked my watch and the only men's Olympic events I've watched were the ones where they were paired with women. #DecenterMen

Statement: Oligarchs are dumb and we should eliminate them by taxing them until they are normal people. If they were smart, they'd understand that wealth is generated by doing stuff or stealing stuff. That stuff needs to be done or created by someone, so they got a bunch of people to do the work. 1/

Year three of this dalea purpurea and we finally have both many stems and many blooms. Love the bright orange pollen extended far out from purple petals. #bloomscrolling
A series of upright green stems with sparse leaflets each with three narrow leaves. Atop each stem is a columnar inflorescence .25" in diameter, .5" - 1.5" in length. In the center of the photo, the inflorescence is blooming with many flowers on the bottom 1/4th, with bright orange stamens above purple petals.

Out of context quote of the day: "But where can I get a Faulkner audio book read by a sad sweaty Texan?"

Boy howdy are the wildflowers going in the front range right now. Beaver Brook - Windy Saddle was beautiful. Here's a crab spider I discovered while investigating a geranium caespitosum? (Pinewoods geranium). Id will be in the comments if someone IDs my observation in iNaturalist.

I was traveling in the Midwest the last couple of weeks... It's just so frustrating to exist in a place where life is just ... continuing?? as normal... for now. The complicity nauseates me, and also fills me with sadness. My parents tell me to be safe/don't protest. My only response / 1

Look. If you wanna hang, let's hang at a protest. Until further notice, that's basically all I have available. Picnic protest? Heck yeah. Slip n slide protest? Yes. Lil vegan BBQ? Uuuuh huh. Yo we can make this shit even more fun than it already is. Elevate your protest, make some friends.❤️

Riding high speed trains is an absolute delight and I really want them in the USA. I know goal posts have shifted off-to-preventing-nazi-land but that doesn't mean we shouldn't hope or imagine a better future. I'd absolutely love a Denver-Chicago connection.

This morning I'm making a batch of steel cut oats, which I season with fresh ginger and cardamom. Yo, it smells like Fruit Loops. Who would have thought those spices were a part of its distinctive smell??

Look I know that squirrels are little menaces to anyone who wants a kempt looking yard but also the holes they dig everywhere are perfect disturbances for sowing native seeds. Let nature decide which grows and which doesn't.

A billionaire should only exist as a blip in time; the short term consequence of a miraculous new product or technology. The proliferation, let alone the long term existence of even a single billionaire is a deep failing of society.

Made a set of mixing bowls for my sister. They're inspired by the double spouted vintage pyrex mixing bowls, but better because these are not glazed with bioavailable lead glazes. During the spout addition, I decided there was no way I was going to put two spots on each one 😄
Set of four apricot colored nested mixing bowls with a pour spout. The smallest bowl is resting one edge down to show the side profile of the bowl.

In most cases, I'm finding that a person wearing an air filtering mask (i.e. a KN95) in public inside spaces is a person I feel safe with.

I'd be pretty stoked about a government that serves all of the people within its borders, and stands as a model for stewarding the earth long l-term... building cultures that can develop and improve for thousands of years.
