If you are a fan of the Golden Age of Detection and a fan of going to the theatre, @jamiewestauthor.co.uk's first two books in the Bertie Carroll Mysteries are definitely for you. This is an author who has great things ahead of him if he keeps up writing like this. open.substack.com/pub/whodunni...

Theatre history: The Era, the newspaper in which the advert is placed, was a popular trade newspaper in the 1930s to the theatre and entertainment industry. The Stage also was around at the time and still exists today but seeing I bring back lost theatres in my books, why not a lost newspaper too?

Absolutely loved A QUEER CASE from Robert Holtom which is coming out 3rd June ❤️ In the novel, the queer world of 1920s London is wonderfully evoked and the murder mystery contained is twisty and brilliant!

I think after reading the opening chapter of Murder at the Matinee, Christie’s influence of my work is quite clear. Of course, there are plenty of nods to Agatha Christie in both my books, particularly in relation to her theatrical career… Have you managed to spot any?

The UK book industry is worth just over £7bn combining digital, print and export markets. I don’t think that even takes into account any other IP licensing for film and TV adaptations etc. Hardly worthless.

Culture can absolutely be Saturday Night Takeaway, wearing grey sweatpants and singing songs at football matches. Those who say culture can only be high art, high fashion, or a night at the opera are elitist and exclusionary. And wrong. Because culture simply is what we are.
