I’ve just been told that the Japanese translation of my book “The Apocalyptic Paul: retrospect and prospect” has been published today. Huge thanks to all involved, especially the translators Kazusa Okaya, Aogu Suzuki, and Daichi Okawa.

I'm working on some sidebars for my commentary on 1 & 2 Thessalonians, and honestly it's like I'm writing "2026: A Survivor's Field Guide"
1 Thes
1 Th 1.1–10: the in-breaking Word and the church
1 Th 2.1–16: maternal metaphors and the ideals of masculinity in the christian leader
1 Th 2.17–3.13: the ‘third agent’ and a contested world
1 Th 4.1–18: grief and the ‘rapture’
1 Th 5.1–11: peace and security? the blasphemous claims of empire
1 Th 5.12–28:

2 Thes
2 Th 1.1–12: suffering and endurance
2 Th 2.1–3.5: the lawless one & the restrainer: cosmic warfare and apocalyptic politics AND/OR holy war/violence
2 Th 3.6–18: the eschatological value of Christian work

In Sweden, heading to ALT School of Theology in Örebro for a two-day conference on “future challenges in Pauline studies.” I’m doing a paper proposing a conversation between the ‘Paul within Judaism’ and ‘apocalyptic Paul’ perspectives. So I expect to come home having pleased nobody.
Poster for the conference, advertising papers by John Barclay, Samuel Byrskog, Beverly Gaventa and more. Not me though.
