It’s my birthday!!

The last few months have been exceptionally difficult. For me personally, with my workplace being impacted so heavily, and for the country and the world as a whole, which is hurting in so many ways due to a combination of incompetence, apathy, and cruelty motivated by the greed and vanity of a few powerful people. It is hard not to feel powerless in the face of that. I am reminding myself, though, to step out of the current moment and appreciate the things that don’t suck:

* I am alive
* I am surrounded by friends and family who I love and who love me
* I have time for artistic expression, through art and dance
* I have cats!
* There are so many places to explore and so many new things to learn
* So many amazing cartoons exist 😂
* There are people writing wonderful stories and creating amazing art
* Even in the face of everything, my coworkers wore my silly party hats and celebrated with me today
* There is sushi and there is dancing, and I am enjoying both tonight with my amazing partner of 12 years
* There will be a time that isn’t this time

I have lived another year and I am determined to continue living and, as has been the philosophy of my thirties, continue to find joy 💖

(To be clear—their crime is working in a program that has existed since the 90s and is focused on protecting the public health of vulnerable communities). We are expecting more waves of firings and it’s not going to be pretty. This is taking a long time because there are a lot of protections for federal workers so that the federal workforce isn’t dismantled and replaced every time there is an
