A tree sitter has returned to the remaining cottonwood in Lochiel, which has its roots to the south of the old wall but overhangs the route of the new one

we see a large and beautiful cottonwood, hung with homemade banners decrying the border wall and with a canopy high up in the branches.

Yeah it is not very commercial timber I suppose. I figured they would have a tree harvester given they're doing this for literally thousands of miles. But it seems like this is how they do it. they didn't seem to shred the other ones on site, big parts of the trunk are still there.

Sadly this is the last remaining tree. Before they began their destruction the trees' canopy crossed the border. The only tree left is the one standing (inches) inside Mexico.

This has often been the case. It's worth noting that the land to the south was the same ranch as the land where the camp is until the border divided it. There was, at one point, a tree sit on the Mexican side. The canopy used to cover the whole area where the road is now.
