Club Zero (2023). Although not on a par with 'Hotel' or 'Lourdes', I think Jessica Hausner's recent films have been underrated. Students are groomed by a teacher to starve themselves. A satire about ideologies becoming detached from reality, rather than aimed at a specific target. #food #school

Spirit In The Blood (2024). One of my favourite horror films of the last few years, although strictly speaking a 'coming of age' story with supernatural undertones. Imagine a less reactionary, more intelligent version of 'The Craft' or 'The VVitch' set in the modern day. #horror #gothic #teenage

Nightborn (2026) by Hanna Bergholm. The director's previous 'Hatching' is one of my favourite coming of age horrors & this is a great companion piece. This time the monster child is newborn & there is more empathy for the mother. Some families still carry the blood of trolls... #horror #folklore

Jane Greer in 'Out Of The Past'. My favourite femme fatale & a fatally flawed one. On the surface the typical devious dame of film noir, in reality all her schemes come undone & her lying appears more pathological than conniving. And she's taller than Napoleon! #filmnoir #40s #femmefatale

Poto & Cabengo (1980). Did neglected twin sisters invent their own language? The US answer to 'The Silent Twins'. I was hoping they wrote novels about an idealized but violent Wales, but this does not seem to be the case. Not much insight, but a good fly on the wall documentary. #twins #childhood

Backrooms (2026). 'House Of Leaves' set in a furniture store? I've disliked a lot of recent high profile US horror ('Obsession', 'Weapons' etc) but enjoyed this. Having now been employed for over 30 years I could certainly relate to its vision of hell as a never ending office. #horror #psychology
