Cornish/ Irish Liberal, exiled in the North Oxfordshire badlands. Used to have a life now controlled by Spanish Water Dogs, a garden & a strange compulsion to do Lib Dem politics. Once described as the 'Boss' Tweed of North Oxfordshire Liberalism.

Wise piece from Michael carnegieendowment.org/middle-east/... on the cynicism of Carlos the Jackal on the 70's Palestinian movement.
carnegieendowment.org
Revolutionary or Hitman?
Carlos the Jackal was a natural outcrop of Palestinian irrelevance in exile during the 1970s.

Watching the Rangers - Dundee game. Possibly the only game I'll bother with this season. But this is seriously hilarious 🤣 Rangers a goal down and now a man down - give the title to Celtic in August? #randun

The Portuguese full back is fantastic - those who follow Portugal rugby probably know this - but Sharp as a tack. Mind you rest of team not so much and Ireland bossing #porVsIre

Haven't been wasting time whilst listening to the 🏏 on #bbctms no constructive time usage... Slightly concerned that the autumn fruiting raspberries are ripe already.

Maine Lamothe has his hat trick for Union Bordeaux Begles and only one as you expect for a hooker the last as a winger under sticks. Jalibert and Moefana have been brilliant - great game. #ubb clearly going to final

Bayonne were immense but not good enough in the end against the machine that is Toulouse - shame. Happy retirement to Cami Lopez who nails the final points of the game - ok I would have nailed that kick. Happy coaching. Hopefully Toulouse will lose to Bordeaux Begles in final but Toulon in way...

The below is why we must always find people to stand. At Parish level the bar is not high. Are you a Nazi or in favour of genocide against some group? If you are not well, that's clearly an improvement - ensure a vote and vote for them...

Impressive rant. As a brat with colonial roots - no holds barred. The English/ British did terrible things, but the binary of common law is up there.

Turns out these morons are worst deal makers than I am. But at least I knew how many cards everyone else had. Assume China talks with Europe has totally spooked them, plus the tanking of US economy, bond yields, dollar dive and inflation. Too late, though - all gone.

Great news! The Liberal Democrat-led 🔶 budget passed by OCC today means more investment in fixing our roads, improving public transport, tackling flooding, and boosting public services. The Conservatives... well they voted against it—pushing for cuts instead - they love creating potholes! 🥴

The new Johnathan Meade's book has arrived via @unbounders.bsky.social not sure if I am supposed to read or mine it. Huge - if paying by word is your thing then this is value for money. Went to a jazz concert this evening - actually rather good. Tommaso Starace since you ask, certainly knows how to blow a sax the other 3 excellent as well but not convinced by double bass solos and frankly the very uncomfortable chairs meant it was 20 mins too long. Not been to jazz in years.

Was at the Any Questions recording last night. U sure how it came across but the Republican Abroad guy, just treated with contempt by the audience. Mostly because he clearly didn't believe anything he said - apart from country club republicans - don't mean his lies but he said stuff he knew was crap

Why did we give so much indulgence to wankers just because they are raising money for 'charity' the twat who spend an hour with his tractor in an empty farm yard making a racket has just driven passed me driving the dogs insane and has probably raised less than the diesel bill (if raised anything).

I had bread and cheese (+ hummus, olives etc) for breakfast last few days in Abu Dhabi and falafel, kibbah etc for lunch. Would Kemi approve? I think real men bring a cow into the office and slaughter it there for lunch, obviously leaving the betas to clean up the entrails- just a steak is wimpish.

A statement on the developing news in Syria
“The fall of Assad is a momentous day for the millions of Syrians who have suffered under his brutal rule.

“This despot - who used chemical weapons against his own people - must now face justice for the crimes which he has committed.

“It is too early to say what happens next. All efforts should be directed to securing an orderly transition of power and protecting minority groups.

“The international community must do all that we can to ensure that this genuinely is a turning point, and it is the voice of Syrians who are now heard, culminating in free and fair elections in line with international law.”

Ok my Assad/random dictator view on the banality of evil Post-Iraq deployment leave in Syria & went around Hafiz Assad mausoleum, as one does (OK Franco out does it) on Teachers Day, thought that was really nice a day to celebrate the educators. No a day for educator's to celebrate Assad. Fuck him

With Homs gone and Assad in Abu Dhabi (?) this now looks likely - extraordinary. Makes peace in Libya and Sahel if not likely, at least possible. Lots of people going home after (sometimes many) decades. Hopefully.

This is certainly true - it is a mess and only Syrians can make sense of it. Getting rid of a regime like Assad's father and son is hard and expect terrible things it is always difficult. I hope for a better future - I hope to return to Syria soon but more importantly my Syrian friends can go home

You want to be optimistic but ... Would like to go back to Syria, only been once since 2011, been a long while, it is/ was a fantastic place to go, Damascus is probably my favourite city. We thought of buying a house there ... picked Lebanon instead possibly not a great idea in retrospect either
