An impromptu moment of endearing calm, always, is watching a blackbird bathe.

Yes, never wanted autumn as much as I did this summer!

Today here in the UK: the first day in 117 days that temperatures across the entire country are staying below 20°C. Quite a statistic.

Sorry to learn of this.

Indeed. I have family in Switzerland and the contrast with the UK is stark (in this and many other ways!).

I’m sorry to hear that. Seeing litter really does negatively affect my mood. The verges of major roads are the worst. I often think that if I was PM, I’d fund & promote a massive nationwide community/public litter-picking campaign, to clear our spaces of decades of neglect in this regard.

Sick of the litter that blights every walk or car journey I take &, moreover, imperils worlds to which we are connected. Words fail me that some fail at showing this most basic level of respect for our environment.

Oh right, I shouldn’t have jumped to that conclusion anyhow! I like a lot the design & finish on that borrowed image though. I also like your Furch’s contrasting rich tones & grain there — very nice!

Blimey, you already have! Brilliant. A custom-made guitar? (I have a PRS with the bird inlays.)

@steveormerod.bsky.social I feel that someone should build a guitar with mother-of-pearl fretboard inlays based on this box tree!
Box tree moth.

Getting quite attached to moths at the moment! Learning a lot about them. They’re fascinating. Many have wonderful names. Recently used a light trap for the first time, in the garden, & looked closely & in wonder at a lunar underwing, merveille du jour & black rustic. The start of years of pleasure!

I hadn’t posted (or engaged) for nearly two years, just checked back now and again for certain people I followed who weren’t (or only infrequently posted) here. But enough was enough — just no longer a pleasant place to be.

After an enjoyable few years on what was Twitter, making connections with fellow nature lovers & sharing advice & learning along the way, X became a big dislike for me. So it’s bittersweet to have finally deleted my Twitter/X account today. This small digital cleanse was definitely needed, though.

An intricate, spherical nest made of grass, belonging to a harvest mouse micromys minutus. Tennis ball-sized, this particular nest is situated c.50cm above ground, anchored to & densely woven from reed sweet-grass glyceria maxima.
