James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 12/12/2024I find myself leaning on static methods to generate the object these days. CreateErrorUser is so much cleaner than doing a new user passing in a property of error, message and error code. It also removes any chance that the person calling it does not understand how to get it in the correct state. 000

James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 01/12/2024I love the hire. Saves us the buyout $$$. If you enjoy mostly runs up the middle and delay of game penalties for subbing with <15 seconds so the defense gets to slowly sub, you’re gonna love Gus 010

James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Write code in the most easy to maintain possible. If there’s an easy performance win, do it but don’t focus on it. Use telemetry to track all critical paths and the performance. Once necessary, optimize performance over maintainability/readability 110

James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024It’s funny you mention that. We are almost entirely Mac here. In my opinion, it’s the best choice because you can run Xcode locally to debug everything you write end to end like a user does. It does seem like DI is somewhat hard for people coming from other languages. 000
James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024Yeah I left the C# world for around 18mo, and went over to #Scala. I think I would have perceived the language as better if we paired up more on that team. As it was, I only really paired up when I was stuck, which was frequently. 010
James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024I love where I live, but our local job market sucks-- from both entertaining work and pay. I'd gladly work hybrid for social reasons, but can't due to location. I think we'll see more and more companies going back in office. 000
James @jamesgarrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024Fellow #dotnet developers. What are the top challenges people you've hired/mentored face when converting to C# and the ecosystem? We're expanding hiring at work to include non dotnet devs and I'd love to hear more about your experience to proactively address things. 320
