The Sharks answering their physicality and outplaying them is pure gold.

The Florida Panther having the two dirtiest players in NHL in the Tkachuk brothers, is some sort of cosmic joke. Any team playing them just to deal with two nightmare humans.

Very excited to have the new version of my Plugin Manager code merged into the @obsproject.com codebase for v33! It has a bunch of behind-the-scenes changes in how plugins are loaded/stored in OBS, and will enable a bunch of amazing new features for OBS users. And huge thanks to @warchamp7.ca for...

Hey! So after seventeen and a half years, October 2nd will be my last day at IGN. It was genuinely a dream come true to do this thing for so long alongside some of the most talented people on earth. I got to travel the world, meet my heroes, and make a ton of really fun shows and videos. An honor ♥️

Welp. Starting in November, I will no longer be employed by IGN. It's been a hell of a ride and I cannot understate how much of an honor and a privilege the last 11+ years have been. This was a dream job, but the best part of IGN is, was, and always will be the people.

An incredibly illuminating interview here, both as a look at making Andor and understanding the skeletal structure of story. The entire series of conversations with the writers is terrific, but it’s Tom’s chat that burrowed deep into my brain.

The OBS project is one the most important pillars of a creators toolbox in the last decade and it’s free. Open source software is one of the few things that brings me joy, so supporting the team through Patreon is the easiest decision I’ve made in a long time.

Better yet, cover updates to Jira as that is probably equally as important to triple AAA game dev as the the engine. 🤪

030

James Faulkner @jamesbfaulkner.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

There is definitely a niche for that type of coverage (I watch a ton of videos on Linux utilities) but for most generalist media personalities, I don’t think they have the frame of mind or knowledge to cover software in a way that makes it useful to their audience.

010

James Faulkner @jamesbfaulkner.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

The decisions that go into upgrading software versions is interesting, the reasons are incredibly varied. Time horizons can vary from developer to developer, and being on the bleeding edge can cause more issues than staying on an older stable version. But again, should/do consumers care? Not really.

110

James Faulkner @jamesbfaulkner.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

This isn’t to say that some coverage of the software isn’t warranted but speculation about use is pointless. Unless you bring in an expert who can contextualize it, it’s not serving the audience well.

110

James Faulkner @jamesbfaulkner.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

Eh fuck it. Games media is for the most part shouldn’t cover game engine updates. These are developer tools that gamers really could give two shits about. It would be like tech media covering the latest version of python. Press are ill equipped to understand software development and tooling.

From not being a sports fan most of my life to being obsessed with the NHL, the past few months have been great. The game has a lot of veterans presence but also a ton of rookies that are playing just out of their minds. It’s really the best time to get into hockey.
