Happy Witcher 3 Remastered Day, everyone! (Especially if you, like me, had a mild panic attack when your save file didn't show up at first)

Seen this doing the rounds and fancied joining in. Since the theme is actually '9 games that shaped me' rather than '9 favourite games of all time', these are the titles that influenced my gaming tastes at a formative stage - and, perhaps inevitably, make me seem old as fuck.

For those complaining the Ocarina Remake uses EoW's scroll bar for item swapping, I think that'll actually be an improvement. Playing MM's Pirate Fortress and it's a faff only having three buttons to handle four bottles, bow, hookshot, and multiple masks!

James Batchelor @jamesbatchelor.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

I find myself hoping/wondering if the Ocarina Remake will improve the appetite among both players and developers for smaller, more memorable open worlds

Quick reminder that my book The History of the Pokémon Games is: a) available in the US via Castmate, and b) the perfect way to celebrate #pokemon30thanniversary

Resisting the urge to play the original Ocarina ahead of the remake by playing the next best (or, IMO, better) thing. Whoever says Navi is annoying obviously doesn't remember Tatl during the first loop. "You've only got three days left" It's not even lunchtime yet!

050

James Batchelor @jamesbatchelor.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

This was the moment where I truly fell in love with Zelda and realised it was bigger than anything I'd played before. I cannot wait to play this again. Ocarina is my most replayed game of all time, and I suspect I'll be going through the remake more than a few times!

James Batchelor @jamesbatchelor.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

As similar as they look, the locations don't appear to be exact 1:1 recreations like the 3DS version. Really looking forward to exploring this Hyrule for the first time again

The music of this series will never fail to bring goosebumps to my skin, especially performed by an orchestra

Aaaand we're done. Incredible game, just as good as the first (which I'm now tempted to replay). Ending has me desperate for Horizon 3 - please don't keep us waiting too long @guerrilla.bsky.social

I know everyone is mourning Peter Cullen and remembering him as Optimus Prime, but I only recently learned he was the original Monterey Jack in Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers (Jim Cummings took over in series two) RIP Peter / Monty. Hope there's plenty of cheese in heaven!

Back at it. Even if it were bagged, this is the most complicated build I've done so far. Wife is away until Sunday. I have until then to finish this/find the kitchen table. Wish me luck!

"Major events... are built around selling The New. Audiences, meanwhile, are buying the old." Spot on from @superjoost.bsky.social here. I'd even expand 'buying the old' to 'buying or continuing to pour money into the old' (e.g. GaaS titles) Full article: superjoost.substack.com/p/revenge-of...

I find it so sad that you can replace the words 'Marvel' and 'X-Men cast' with practically any company/franchise and the headline still works Just enjoy things, people. Or don't, and go find something else to enjoy. Plenty of choice out there.

Now the 40th anniversary Switch 2 and controller have leaked, and we are (I assume) expecting a Zelda Direct... ...is it time to start up the inevitable (yet futile) 'Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD double pack on Switch 2' speculation?

Finished Metroid Prime Remastered last night. Still an absolute masterpiece. Only things that would improve it are MP4's precision aiming and some sort of fast travel system Really hope Nintendo doesn't give up after 4 and we get more of these!

Finished 007 First Light last night. Loved it! Not only raises the bar for Bond games, but I honestly think it raises the bar for whatever Amazon does to reboot the films. Please don't make us wait six years for the next one, @ioi.dk!

Game Credit No.3 - Froggy Hates Snow May 7, 2026 - I adore this game. Such a different take on the roguelike and survival genre, the digging mechanic never ceases to satisfy... and nor does the flamethrower!

Game Credit No.2 - Let Them Come: Onslaught November 11, 2025 - Another great bullet heaven game with a grittier sci-fi vibe. My favourite part of this game are the weapons, which physically transform as you upgrade them

Going to start a thread of my credits. Mostly so I can easily find them, partly for bragging rights 😉 So, Game Credit No.1 - Soulstone Survivors June 17, 2025 - Awesome bullet heaven that feel like you've gone from Lvl 1 to Lvl 100 in just ten mins. Perfect for a noob like me

Feels like folks are expecting the Ocarina remake to be i the vein of those UE5 fan projects, or souped up like Star Fox. Would love to see the reaction if it's instead built with the BOTW/TOTK engine and assets!
