The UK would be in a much stronger position if the word boats was censored from politics.

In much the same way that big business has polluted the planet in the name of profit, big business is now going for cultural pollution of media and information. To big business people are not citizens: they are merely consumers.

Finally. Finally, the smell of corruption is associated with Farage. All the denial won’t wash. It’s in plain sight. He is synonymous dirty money. This is not new news. It is, however, a new image that will be the end of him.

A politician lost in Westminster, trying to connect with the Reform supporters in her constituency.

I think the moral position is far more significant than the legal / financial position. Legally acceptable doesn’t make it right.

Perhaps the most English response to the immigration nonsense of the far right racists.

You don’t get yourself out of a hole by standing your ground and digging deeper. What an utter waste of a political majority.

Taxi for Keir.

Agreed. I think she was pretty much anti anything and everything in her later years. A life in politics

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
It was much, much later she decided a federal Europe was not what she wanted. By then she was, thankfully, toward the end of her political career.

She wasn’t: 1975 Referendum CampaignPro-Membership: Thatcher was a prominent campaigner in 1975 to keep the UK in the EEC (the precursor to the EU), arguing that leaving would be "bad for Britain". Thatcher championed and signed this act, aiming to create a barrier-free single market for trade.

She was remarkably EU positive.

Yes, the case needs to be more holistic and cover the full range of benefits (improved trade, increased security, less red tape, better travel and freedom…..). And the cherry on the cake: rejoin the EU and really pee-off Donald Trump……got to be the persuasive political argument to win votes….

It would break the Starmer habit of being on the back foot and just defending bad news. What does he have to lose? This might become the only card to play if the May elections are dire.
010
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 18/04/2026
Agreed. But to penetrate, you need to paraphrase it all into a three word slogan: “this one’s false”…….. “stop the miscalculations”………

What’s he got to lose ?

Now was the time to congratulate the Greens for stopping the language of hate. Now was the time to show change. But no. Taxi for Starmer.

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
I think it’s now clear that Starmer is the issue. If there was ever a time to learn from past mistakes. Take the loss. Be humble. Congratulate the Greens for halting Reform and the language of hate. But no, just keep aping Reforms sour grapes. Taxi for Starmer…..

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 27/02/2026
From Greens, to Labour, and, Lib Dems - this is the core of the populations political views. Reform, despite all the hype, are a small part of the English identity. Tactical voting is the way to consign all the hate and drivel to the dustbin. Tactical voting must be an applied method.

Just wondering if Andy Burnham might be interested in this vacant position. Certainly would signal a new direction.

About time. He could have extinguished Farage by holding him to the fire.

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Very poor political decision. It makes Starmer look very weak. Blue Labour are all but finished.
000
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
The irony of saving Starmer and losing Labour voters. Myopic. This will only add fuel to the fire.

With France and Germany ramping up army budgets and subscriptions, I don’t think Europe is hanging around any longer. There are 500 million plus population and many of the G7 economies. I think 2026 will reveal more. NATO might have to face some big tests.

Putin is the world leader I most admire……… When he strays into international politics, it’s as dangerous as his domestic approach. Imagine any country in the world taking his advice.
000
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/01/2026
Such a good question. It’s as if Putin has reached the part of his plan that would thrill him the most. War would not be tanks and soldiers, a few helicopters and some small precise military strikes. It would be nuclear. It would be quick and ensure mutual destruction.

It’s hard to know if it extends any further than greed. It’s so hollow (on both sides of the Atlantic). If you ask your average person their goal in life, it’s usually health and happiness. If you ask the megalomaniacs, it’s about how much, how big, how fast…….

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/01/2026
When capitalism requires oil rare earth minerals to keep its cycle of greed…… When you can also create a distraction from the Epstein files……. The art of the deal. Surely the UK must now see that the EU is a much better bed-fellow?
141
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/01/2026
And of course, You’re not talking about the Epstein files today…….
010
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/01/2026
It’s an act of unbridled capitalism. It’s the oil. Other countries, with minerals, are also on the list. The art of the deal. When greed is unchecked and allowed to run riot. I wonder how FIFA feel about that peace price now.

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/01/2026
If your country has either oil or rare earth minerals, the unrestrained face of capitalism is coming. The art of the deal…….

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 31/12/2025
I think that’s the status quo: until any party try something different (Customs Union or a big reset with the EU), it is just playing a poor hand on a losing board. Starmer’s fence sitting is frustrating and a wasted opportunity to use his majority.

It’s not as if it’s not visible. Look at Brexit and follow the money. Farage. FBI person of interest. Supports Putin. Doing damage to the UK. Like Trump, he’s hurting the West.

You have to let Labour go. It’s like a toxic zombie disease…..they are now contagious too. Lid Dems and Greens are the only hope for the survival of humanity!

I think you’ve answered the question. Sad but true….. a lot of the UK is politically illiterate. They believe The Sun, or The Telegraph, or The Daily Mail, or BBC News as they are pummelled by it 24/7. The mass media is owned by those needing to brainwash the masses.
010
James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 07/09/2025
Why can’t people see? That’s due to the money and sophistication used in the media. Their hegemony pummels people 24/7, day in / day out. Hail Nigel and Reform - a new force…….whereas, in reality, some of the poorest politicians from the last government are joining Reform.

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 05/09/2025
Squandered a big majority, spent too long dithering over decisions….. Like Johnson, Starmer”s legacy will be one of wasting every opportunity for improvement and not getting the big items sorted.

James @jamesawr.bsky.social · 03/09/2025
That’s perhaps the biggest political beating you can get. So deserving.

Respite for the good people of Clacton. When cornered….. “I don’t have an opinion on it”…. Trouble wherever he goes.

Just something positive. Something looking at bigger issues. Just something with a nod to the future of this country. I think any party that promised not to mention asylum seekers and hotels would do very, very well…..
