Good weekend playing cards, 3-1 at FNM playing turbo terror in pauper into 3-0 at cyberpunk tcg beta. Lost to a buddy on grixis affinity which is a complicated matchup I’m still navigating then fought through two Hawk decks and a spy player. Played midrange in cyberpunk. Fun to learn a new game.

2-2 on Friday into 2-0-1 on Tuesday. Turbo Terror feels strong but no games are free and every choice really matters. Beat fairies 3 times and red madness once. Lost to red axe and a Golgari ramp rogue list. Tied against Jund wildfire. Dodged most zeta decks so far this season.

2-1 at Tuesday league with turbo terror. R1 Rakdos madness 🐲☠️🐲 R2 mono u fairies ☠️☠️ R3 red madness ☠️🐲🐲 Bad variance against fairies, you need two snakes to apply enough pressure and they were all hiding lol. Madness variants both felt winnable. Rakdos was harder because of bog.

Disappoint showing at the CPL invitational. Started season 2 with a 2-1 losing to infect then took down the trophy at FNM with turbo terror rocket into first place. Deck feels good cantrip or die will be curious to see how the Zeta downshifts change the meta.

Dolly Parton did a huge amount of good with wealth she largely worked to earn. 9 to 5 is a Marxist text & permeant karaoke banger. She stood with queer & trans people throughout her life & the world was a better place for having her stay a while.

Hi all! I've received many questions about the Zeta cards previewed today and their common rarity. These cards listed from SLZ (such as Baleful Strix, but there are more) will not change Pauper legality. Secret Lair reprints are not meant to impact Pauper. Thanks! #wotcstaff

Big weekend of magic; Friday went 3-1 at FNM to lock in 2nd for CPL season 1. Invitational next Sunday. Saturday went 4-3 at NRG Milwaukee pauper to finish in top 32. Sunday went 3-3 at NRG team trios. Played red madness in pauper mono green landfall in standard.

Rough day in pauper back on mono red madness last night. Lost to grixis and Rakdos madness before finding redemption by beating fams. Had some tough mulligan calls in game 1 and then couldn’t push through the nightmare matchup in game 2. Game 3 I played well so chalking it up to an off night.

Not super happy about losing my otters in the standard banning. However, happy mono green landfall became a lot more affordable without cubs. Excited to learn that deck. I’m concerned we’re going to be in a control dominant standard, I would’ve hit tablet instead of gran gran or both.

2-2 with turbo terror last night. Deck is fun but has some polarizing matchups. It’s the most red blue deck ever.

Had to bow out of genesis due to health complications on the way but got back to pauper tonight with mono blue fairies and went 2-1. 2-0 versus terror and 2-1 versus Naya gates but then couldn’t get past my friend/rival killer Mikey on Boros synth. Happy to try some different lists.

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 04/07/2026

2-1 on Tuesday into 3-1 on Friday. Lost to the same Gates deck twice… it’s a very hard matchup for mono red madness. Beat Jund wildfire, fairies, mono blue terror, rally, and Dimir terror though so I feel like I’ve gone through the gauntlet of bad matches. Excited for Genesis next week!

Bit late on this one but we were able to go 4-0 8-0 with mono red madness last Friday. Back on top of the CPL rankings. Testing for Pauper Genesis has been helping a lot, can feel myself making less mistakes and finding more outs. R1 Mirror R2 Esper affinity R3 Jund wildfire R4 Mirror

2-0-1 with Naya heroes. Prerelease was a lot of fun. This limited environment feels super bomb heavy.

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 17/06/2026

Tried the Melded Moxite mono red madness variant and wasn’t super happy with it. Granted we were testing problematic matchups but still it sacrificing speed to try and hedge more draw spells to more consistently find combo pieces. Red should never hedge it needs to go all it.

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 13/06/2026

Rough week in pauper 1-2 into 2-2 on mono red. Lost to the mirror, elves, whale combo, and orzov blade. Beat affinity, mirror, and rally. Weird week need to go back in the tank and test some more.

2-1 on Tuesday 3-1 on Friday. Am hoping to start getting some trophies soon but the consistent positive record has been enough to put me at the top of Chicago pauper league currently. Enjoying the company of the local community most of all. Excited for Pauper Genesis next month.

3-1 at pauper last night with mono red madness. Lost a close match in round 3 to Selesnya gates but was able to punch through ponza, fams, and a mirror without dropping a game. Deck feels strong think I need to slow down a little one some of the big turns.

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

2-2 with monsters on Friday and then 0-2 into the bye with affinity last night. New deck growing pains may rock up with madness on Friday to try and get back in the win column. Game store had free extra beer so that was a good consolidation prize.

000

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 20/05/2026

Switching it up after the 1k, went 2-1 with gruul monsters. After the unbanning I believe the ponza version of that deck looks really strong and am considering pivoting into it.

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 17/05/2026

Split top 8 of Dice Dojo pauper 1k today with mono red madness. Horrible mull to 4 game 1, but the deck ran really well after that. Picking up either spy or grixis affinity now to focus on pauper more in the future and grow the Chicago Pauper league. Matchups listed in comments. Loot is happy!

james945858.bsky.social @james945858.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

3-1 at dojo and then 2-1 at tower. Dropped a match to a mirror and then to jeskai ephemerate. Madness feels strong but with all the life gain running around it can be hard to fight through. Hope we get something new or downshifted to prevent this in the future.

Back on mono red madness, back in the win column. Season 1 of the Chicago Pauper league off to a good start. 3-0 at Dark Tower along with my brother and Shawn. Mono red feels good but looking at orzov blade and grixis affinity also. R1 white weenie 🔥🔥 R2 orzov blade 🔥☠️🔥 R3 infect 🔥🔥

3-1 at pauper FNM to slide back into second for league rankings. Lost to a golgari pest champion which is a tough match for madness post board but I think madness has the best chance of getting under the control pile. Going to keep practicing with madness for NRG trios and start grinding modern.

Mixed weekend of magic. 2-2 at FNM pauper playing mono red madness. It’s powerful but there is a fail rate that makes it frustrating. 4-1-2 at standard RCQ with Izzet prowess. Deck ran great didn’t drop a game until top 4 but then couldn’t win the rematch against Azorious Airbending.
