Hearing Will Barta and Magnus Sheffield speaking Norwegian to each other was one of the my more unexpected moments of 2026 😅

I am fine for them being within 1 week of each other in Sept/Oct if they are dramastically difference parcours. Gives multiple atheltes a goal to peak for at the end of the season

Possibly unpopular opinion… World and European champs should be on courses that are the polar opposite of one another - especially when they are ridden within a week of each other

Happy Kicked In The Head By A Horse Day, to all who celebrate. It's the 7th anniversary of this absolute banger.

Took my son to the eye doctor this morning (check up) He told me in the waiting room he needed the bathroom and wanted to be picked up I picked him up to carry him there and he proceeded to throw up into my face So yeah - today started well 🤢🤮

You say that, but ASO owns the Tour of Germany, which overlaps with both Renewi and Vuelta, so it would likely get squeezed

It’s an ecosphere… You normally cover a logistical challenge like this with 2 set ups: cars, trucks, buses, staff, bikes etc If you need 1 extra set up to cover a GT that means there is another race you can’t go to, so smaller races will also be impacted

For example, this is described as neglect Neglect is the act of 'failing to give proper care' However, in this instance, the act of not providing water is a punishment for poor performance and therefore this should be classified as 'physical abuse'

Still find it amusing that everyone who ever posts about the Dunning-Kruger effect and Mount Stupid is someone posting from Mount Stupid about Dunning-Kruger's findings which is also quite ironic, as the 'curve' and Mount Stupid are not present in the original research

It’s a sad reflection but the reality of high performance sport is that if you have time to post consistently on linked in about what you are doing you are probably not that great at your job! Everyone I know who is very good is way to busy to do so

I wasn’t actually talking about researchers in this post - research is exactly as you describe But if I open LinkedIn it’s a stream of people not working in high performance environments highlighting how we are all getting it wrong

Earlier this week, I asked which tie knot you think looks better. Of course, you can wear whichever you like. But here's the social history behind both knots and why some people consider one better than the other. 🧵

Love that the hotel that housed the peloton yesterday has been flooded with 5* reviews, including from the peloton. Sounds like they really rose to the occasion. I hope they received a tip for helping out.

Several stories & pictures about the Igesa Mont-Louis hotel taking in the Vuelta riders yesterday. L'Equipe reports it happened in part because once the organisers announced the cancellation moto regulator Jean-Marc Marino (an ex-pro) knew the hotel and got riders to follow him towards the shelter..

Absolutely ridiculous Hansen added: "To close every single road and driveway is difficult and it gets to the point how little risk the organisers want to take and if it's even possible for them to have people at all those points." Sort the safety of the sport out and stop making excuses

To give an example, the consensus amongst teams was that the leader suits in Giro were 40-65s slower than the best custom suits in the long TT
000
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
This has becomes such a performance issue that riders are now deliberately trying to lose jerseys going into TTs
100
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
If needed print on the relevant race logos rather (in place of printing the team logo)
100
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Then each team can make 3-4 custom suits and riders can use the the correct team suit at the appropriate race
100
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Allow races to chose between 3-4 standard colours
101
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
If the UCI is really interested in fair completion then they should flip the rules on leaders jerseys & TT suits Rather than having a rider wear one provided by the race and the team logo added

Sounds more like a regulatory issue - if we want to avoid this behaviour by all parties than those regulating the sport on the ground need to take action

Perhaps we should spend as much time scrutinising ‘legitimate questions’ as we do placating those who ask them
000
James Spragg @james-spragg.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
The issue with ‘legitimate questions’ is they are never questions, they are actually often uninformed positions and opinions, often with an ulterior motive wrapped up as a question.

An informed perspective - this level of reflection, nuance and clarity is why it’s better to listen to experts over those with ‘legitimate questions’

What were the estimates at the time on all these factors? How far outside of the models we use the predict pandemic spread were we operating Etc etc etc A moment of reflection on whether these so called ‘legitimate questions’ come from a place of informed legitimacy could be encouraged

Legitimate things one should know before questioning those that made the decision to close schools… How many lives are the school closures estimated to have saved? What was the quantified impact on the education of school aged kids in that period What was the economic effect of these closures
