If you do the same West Country accent for another set of characters you could say they are from Norfolk and be just as lazy as a lot of well paid actors. Brummie elves though. Everyone makes them sound elegant, and I think they would not be.

Mage Knight is a big ass game, and I will never tire of it.
A game of mage knight sprawling over an entire kitchen table.

"How did you get into ttrpgs" A couple of lesbians I had met in the pub invited me to theirs to play pretend. I still go round weekly to play pretend.

Books covered in hand written notes, also with a shopping receipt shoved between the pages that has obviously been used as a bookmark. Whom is it that understood this book so well, and bought ten mars bars and a bottle of pernod to go with it?

I am finding Jane Eyre a much more difficult read than I ddid Frankenstein. I feel like I understood Frankenstein as I read it, but much more of Eyre appears to be hiding from me. I am still greatly enjoying it though, it is nice to be challenged.

I believe the residents of Piddington would be well against new housing anywhere near their parochial haven. The kind on NIMBY that was likely 'liberal' and sympathetic to migrants having to be housed somewhere; until that somewhere was near them.

Do you find interesting fun?
100
James Chip @james-chip.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
All games appear on the following scale. fun <------------> not fun It is not just possible, but expected that you might put a game in a wildly different place than someone else. The meaning of 'fun' is subjective, thre scale pointless. That is my entire theory of games.

This is a self inflicted limit. I not only don't want to end up buying games and putting them on a shelf waiting to be played, but I also have limited space.

One game I really want to play is Halls of Hegra. I am not much into wargames set in real world conflicts, but this one game in particular looks like it would suit me very well as a big fan of both Nemos War and Robinson Crusoe. I am not allowed to buy it until I clear more shelf space though.

I work with someone who refuses to accept that Mario Kart is a racing game (their favorite type of game) because it isn't a simulation. I have never met anyone so wrong on such a simple thing. It happens to be the second best racing game ever in my opinion, just behind uniracers.

This year I have added to the shelf. Deckers. This is supposed to be good if you like mage knight. Vantage. I am hoping this is the middle ground between 7th continent which I didn't like, and Sleeping Gods which I loved but don't have time to go through. Duels of melock. Interesting.

Tiny towns. I had this because I think it is a great game to play with 4-6 people, but I never have that many people to play with anymore and the solo game is not good enough to keep it around. The same as sagrada I was keeping it for the kids, but that's a bit futile.

Sagrada. I really enjoyed this a lot, but I have worn it out. I had been keeping it about for when the kids get older to play with them, but that's going to be at least a decade off and there will be more and better games in the meantime.

Blackstone fortress went because if I am honest I have just gone off games with this much upkeep to play. I really enjoyed it for a good few years, but my tastes have shifted.

Now onto what is leaving my shelf. 7th continent. To be honest I never really clicked with this game. On paper it is everything I should like, but I found it quite drab to play. I tried several times to like it, and I don't think it is bad, just not for me.

Cascadia. This is such a great little tile placement game. Just the right level of puzzle solving. I play this quite a bit on evenings where I don't have the energy to bring a bog box to the table, and I usually play a couple of rounds of it. This is also one I reach for when people come over.

Memos war is a perennial classic for me. I just love everything about this game. I love the theme, I love the table presence, I love the feel of playing it. I only play it a hand full of times a year and its always a complete blast. I don't know if I will ever get bored of this one.

For all my sins as a solo board game player I played Mage Knight for the first time last year. It was a game that had always been on my radar but I just never got too. Everything solo players say about how awesome this game is is true, and I look forward to getting it to the table again.

This nights are drawing in and the weather is changing which means we are nearly at the "James plays boardgames by himself" part of the year. I have some new games to dive into thus year, but first let me highlight my favorites from last year. #boardgames

Selling arms is a lucrative business and opposing genocide risks those profits, where as dehumanizing people from other countries helps grease the gears or the war machine.

I am reading Jane Eyre for the first time and it might be the best book I read ever. I can not out it down. I was not normally one for 19th century literature, but after reading Frankenstein the bug appears to have bitten me.

I am old enough to remember when we called it a bug when software behaved in unexpected and unpredictable ways. I also remember when we used to write software to solve problems instead of looking for problems to affix to the software we just wrote.

I think we were 10 when we had to read this at school and we got on with it fine. I would assume that anyone who thinks the Hobbit is not a childrens book has not only not read the hobbit, but has very limited experience with children. They are really very capable of things, if you let them.

I had finished my summer reading books so went to the library and plucked a cometely random book I had never heard of off the shelf. The book was The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington, and I am not disappointed. vibes of On a Winters Night a Traveller and We Have Always Lived In This Castle.

There are lots of book people feel like they should have read, and feel bad for not. It's OK to just not. I will not read Dracula. I tried and bounced off it. Doesn't make me a bad reader, I just wasn't enjoying it, and if you aren't enjoying it move on. Its fine, there are worse things.
