Trusting News has spent a decade on one stubborn problem: people don't automatically believe journalists, and telling them to won't fix it. Joy Mayer founded the project in 2016. She sat down with us to talk about trust, AI and what still needs to change.
Joy Mayer smiles at the camera, wearing dark-framed glasses and a bright pink top, seated on a gray outdoor sofa with green palm fronds and a wooden fence behind her. A teal COLLABORATOR label and a pink Q&A speech-bubble graphic appear in the lower right.

The session shows a debloating plan to inventory installed packages, save the current device state, identify protected system components, disable only agreed low-risk packages, and then verify playback, casting, remote control, updates, and rollback. The terminal is currently listing installed packages and system configuration while the device remains unchanged.

The number of newsrooms in New Jersey keeps shrinking, but the number of small news businesses is growing. Our latest research counts 730 outlets serving the state, down 50 in five years, and most run as small operations bringing in $500,000 a year or less.

Most local news funding gets spread thin: small grants, lots of outlets, a year or two at a time. Two NJ newsrooms just got the opposite. The Jersey City Times and Follow South Jersey landed multi-year grants big enough to plan around, not just survive on.
